Satin slips on your hair rather than snagging it. If you have hair that is long, fine or curly, sleeping on it at night can lead to a tangled mess in the morning. A satin sleep bonnet keeps your hair out of the way, and it also protects your hair by preventing drag on the pillowcase. While you can purchase a satin sleep bonnet, you can also make your own with less than a yard of satin and a length of elastic.

Step 2
Hem the circle by turning the edges down twice toward the shiny side of the fabric, creating folds that are about ¼-inch deep and sewing them flat.

Lay the satin circle flat and imagine the circle is a clock face.
Step 4
Mark 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock around the edge of the circle using chalk.
Step 5
Measure around your head with a measuring tape where you want the sleep bonnet to sit.

Step 6
Cut a length of elastic that is as long as the distance around your head.
Step 7
Divide the length of elastic into fourths and divide each unit visually with pins.
Step 8
Sew the elastic to the edge of the satin circle on the shiny side, stretching the elastic and scrunching the fabric as you go. If you start sewing at the 12 o'clock position, you should reach the 3 o'clock position by the time you reach the first pin. If you ever have too much fabric, put a little pleat in the edge.

Step 9
Continue sewing until the elastic circles the edge of the satin circle. Wear the satin bonnet when you sleep with the shiny side toward your hair.
