10 Harsh Realities Of Being Timmy Turner - CBR

On The Fairly OddParents, Timmy Turner seems like an average kid, who no one understands. His parents and his evil babysitter Vicky are always giving him commands. But Timmy has two secret weapons nobody knows about in his corner: Cosmo and Wanda, his fairy godparents.

Despite having magic to help him out — and sometimes because of it — Timmy's life isn't always easy. After all, a tough life is usually a prerequisite for having fairy godparents in the first place. That said, Timmy endures plenty of harsh realities, from the people he knows to the entire universe out to get him.
10 Timmy Won't Get To Keep Cosmo & Wanda Forever
It's established that Timmy won't get to keep Cosmo and Wanda forever. In fact, he probably won't even get to remember all the times he's had with them. The series didn't stay consistent over when this will happen. It was usually established he'd lose them when he turned 18, but the episode "Birthday Bashed!" implied Timmy might not even have that long. Complicating things, the spin-off live-action series, Fairly Odder, reversed this premise. While Cosmo and Wanda believed they'd be going to college with Timmy, he just wanted to move on.
9 Timmy's Wishes Always Bring About Horrible Consequences
Timmy's wishes usually backfire on him, and there's always some rule preventing him from undoing the wish. In most episodes, this is meant to illustrate that Timmy should be more careful concerning what he wishes for, enjoy what he has, or be cautious about jumping into something too quickly. However, it sometimes feels like the universe conspires to make Timmy's life harder than it needs to be. In "Knighty Knight," after being ripped off at a Camelot Fair, Timmy wishes to actually visit a fantasy world. This backfires when a dragon kidnaps Timmy's parents, and he can't simply wish them safe because dragons are somehow impervious to magic.
8 He Has To Put Up With Vicky
Vicky is Timmy's babysitter and is always coming up with some new way to torture him — from blackmailing him, unfairly getting him in trouble, or treating him like a servant.

As the series went on, Vicky went from a sadistic babysitter to someone who would be perfectly willing to murder Timmy if she could. It's also possible she became bent on world domination. Of course, whether she was a petty bully or an evil overlord, she was pretty much the reason Timmy had fairies to begin with.
7 His Parents Aren't Much Better
In the original Oh Yeah! Cartoon shorts, Timmy's usually faceless parents were often away on some social event, leaving Timmy to the mercy of his evil babysitter, Vicky. As the series went on, however, they became much more neglectful and openly resentful towards their only son.
Timmy's parents weren't above using him for labor, either. "The Old Man and the C-," Mrs. Turner forced Timmy to get a job, so she wouldn't have to — despite previously working as a real-estate agent. In "Farm Pit," Mr. Turner expected Timmy to do all the work when he purchased a farm.
6 He Has To Put Up With All The Trials Of A Double Life
Generally, Timmy has to keep his fairies a secret from the people in his life, but there are a few loopholes throughout the series. Other kids with fairies are usually given a free pass, and it doesn't count when people don't realize Cosmo and Wanda are fairies or that they belong to Timmy. Still, keeping them a secret isn't always easy. One can only blame the internet so much.
There have been plenty of times when Timmy got into trouble because he had to keep the truth a secret. In "Inspection Detection," Timmy was accused of shoplifting because he couldn't explain his fairies conjuring things up for him. In "Sooper Poof," after Timmy's parents accidentally adopt Poof, they think Timmy's trying to kill his new brother, in part because he can't explain the situation.
5 School For Timmy Means Evil Teachers & Abysmal Grades
School isn't easy for Timmy. His teacher, Mr. Crocker, takes pleasure in failing him and is suspicious about Timmy's fairy godparents, gradually becoming obsessed with exposing them to the world at large.
Even having magic at his disposal can't help Timmy's grade point average. In "Tiny Timmy!" Timmy gets to shrink down to study human biology firsthand. But when he uncovers outlandish things, like bad people having black holes instead of hearts, he ends up failing the assignment anyway.
4 His Love Life Is Already Problematic & He's Just A Kid
Timmy might be 10 years old, but he already has a complicated love life. Vicky's sister Tootie likes him, and while she's usually sympathetic, she does things that are borderline criminal — like trying to force Timmy into marriage. Timmy prefers the more popular Trixie Tang, but she usually puts social status over him. Trixie's friend Veronica likes Timmy, but that might be because she secretly wants to be Trixie.
There have even been a few times when adult women have shown an interest in Timmy — like the mysterious Carly — bringing up all sorts of implications. The live-action movies initially settle the issue by finally pairing Timmy off with Tootie as adults. However, the final film ends with Timmy being changed into a childlike fairy, bringing up a slew of unanswered questions about their relationship.
3 He Was Shown A World Where Things Would Be Better Without Him
In "It's a Wishful Life," Timmy wishes he was never born after experiences a really bad day. When Jorgen threatens to send him to a fiery inferno with other kids who wished themselves out of existence, Timmy has to prove the world still needs him. However, his absence seems to have done nothing but good.

2 He Once Trapped All Of Humanity In A Time Loop & Almost Killed His Brother
According to "Timmy's Secret Wish!" Timmy came up with a workaround for the time limit he had with Cosmo and Wanda: he made a secret wish, so time stood still and nobody noticed. While this was something of an in-joke depicting how cartoon characters don't age, things soon took a dark turn. Eventually, this secret wish came to light after fifty years, and Father Time restored the denied years —instantly making everyone exceedingly aged.
This puts the human population at risk, as more humans can't be born. Since Poor came from a wish, this also put his existence in danger.
While the story ends with everything reset to the way it was before Timmy made the wish, this best case scenario means Timmy might still have to deal with the age limit in years to come.
1 He's His Own Worst Enemy
Timmy has made quite a few enemies for himself, to the point where he has literally wished them into existence. This includes wishing things like his bike, his hair, and even an old imaginary friend to life. Unfortunately, they usually turn against him.
According to one story, Timmy's wishes don't disappear after a wish is undone: they are simply sent away. Because of this, plenty of enemies Timmy made are still out there, plotting their revenge. Over the years, it's been shown Timmy's to blame for things like Mr. Crocker's obsession with fairies and Vicky being hired as his babysitter.
