Yet, across more than 1,000 episodes produced in the Pokémon series, Ash and his friends have experienced the amazing abilities many of these little Pokémon have, helping them through their adventures and even coming to the rescue when they were all in sticky situations. Pokémon is a series that shows whether a character is big or small, they all can make a difference.
Updated on December 15th, 2022 by Tom Steel: As the Pokémon franchise continues to grow and expand, even more new species are introduced and discovered. The recent release of the Gen IX games Scarlet & Violet has seen even more tiny Pokémon welcomed to the series, and while they haven't yet appeared in the anime, they are now a part of this storied franchise. This list has been updated to include these small newcomers to see how they compare among the tiniest that Pokémon has to offer.
15 Shroodle, The Toxic Mouse Pokémon
Size: 8"
Scarlet & Violet have introduced various new species of Pokémon, and among the more interesting of the Paldean additions is Grafaiai. The Poison/Normal type evolves from Shroodle, which just so happens to be one of the smallest Pokémon in the entire franchise.
The Toxic Mouse Pokémon, Shroodle can still be seen by those with keen eyesight in the wilds of many areas throughout Paldea. Its Normal/Poison typing is exceedingly helpful with only two weaknesses, even if it doesn't become a competent battler until it evolves.
14 Flittle, The Frill Pokémon
Size: 8"
Flittle is one of the more adorable additions to the roster in Gen IX, but this tiny Psychic type comes with an attitude, especially if anyone steals its berries. Flittle are tiny at 8" but eventually evolve into the much larger Ostrich Pokémon, Espathra.
Flittle are so tiny, that players can easily confuse them for the icon that represents items hidden on the ground, initiating some battles that they would otherwise avoid. Flittle are rarely used in battle as Trainers are generally put off by their 255 base stat total, but Espathra offers much more.
13 Milcery, The Cream Pokémon
Size: 8"
The sweet little Fairy-type Pokémon Milcery, standing at 8" tall and weighing just 0.7 lbs, was introduced in the Gen VIII games Sword & Shield. Milcery's first anime appearance is in the 82nd episode of Pokémon Journeys as the main characters, Ash, Goh and Chloe, visit a pastry shop in Ballonlea.
With Milcery's fascination with sweets, she quickly takes to Goh and the cupcake on his plate, giving him an opening to catch the Cream Pokémon. When Goh lets the ecstatic Milcery out of her Poké Ball, he places a small berry on her head causing her to evolve into the Pokémon Alcremie.
12 Solo Form Wishiwashi, The Small Fry Pokémon
Size: 8"
The Solo Form of Wishiwashi is from Pokémon's Gen VII and at just 8" tall and weighing 0.7 lbs, this Water-type Pokémon is rightfully considered small fry. Wishiwashi is introduced in Episode 33 of Season 20, "Big Sky, Small Fry." This episode is where Ash and Lana head to Brooklet Hill to go fishing after hearing rumors of a Totem Pokémon in the area.

Once Lana gets permission from the master fisherman to battle said Totem Pokémon, she comes across an injured Wishiwashi and bandages it back up before getting it safely back into the water. The Totem Pokémon is Wishiwashi in its gigantic School Form, but it is ultimately made up of the tiny Solo Forms.
11 Tynamo, The EleFish Pokémon
Size: 8"
Tynamo is the tiny electric eel-like Pokémon that is around 8" tall and weighs only 0.7lbs. This little Pokémon makes its big debut in the episode "Dazzling the Nimbasa Gym." In this episode, Ash is off to battle in the Nimbasa Gym against the Gym Leader Elesa, who specializes in Electric-type Pokémon.
With Ash and Pikachu's determination to win pushing Elesa to her limits, she brings out her secret weapon, Tynamo. Tynamo shows Ash that it is not to be underestimated during its battle against Pikachu, yet Pikachu and Ash's teamwork proves to be unmatched with their quick strategic planning, and they walk away with the Bolt Badge.
10 Nymble, The Grasshopper Pokémon
Size: 8"
Nymble is one of the first Bug types to be introduced in Scarlet & Violet, with one being used by Cortondo Gym Leader Katy. Trainers are generally more excited by its evolved form Lokix, and Nymble suffers from a base stat total of 210.
Nymble are 8" grasshopper-like Pokémon, but their erratic movements make them easy enough to pick out in the wild. They tend to roam around the West and South Provinces, with some being found as soon as the player leaves Mesagoza via the West Gate. Lokix are still small for a final evolution, but at 3'3" they still tower above Nymble.
9 Rellor, The Rolling Pokémon
Size: 8"
Rellor is the small Rolling Pokémon that resembles a tiny dung beetle. At 8", Rellor's mud ball is the same size as it, and this ball is its most treasured possession. Rellor makes the mud ball thanks to its growing psychic powers, that only properly change this Pokémon's sole Bug typing upon its evolution into Rabsca.
This evolution requires players to walk their tiny Rellor using the Let's Go feature, for 1000 steps. The little beetle does its best to keep up with its Trainer, all while pushing its beloved ball along.
8 Cosmog, The Nebula Pokémon
Size: 8"
The rare Psychic-type Nebula Pokémon, Cosmog is an 8" stray ball of smoke weighing only 0.2 lbs. Cosmog appears in the first episode of Season 21 "A Dream Encounter!" in a dream where Ash makes a promise to the Legendary Pokémon Lunala and Solgaleo.

When Ash finally comes across the mysterious Pokémon Cosmog, he finds it asleep in the forest and brings it back to the Pokémon School. After meeting Lusamine, who offers to take in Cosmog to research this mysterious Pokémon, Ash realizes that his dream promise was to look after this Cosmog, naming it Nebby in the process.
7 Cosmoem, The Protostar Pokémon
Size: 4"
Cosmog's evolved form Cosmoem is even smaller. Being engulfed by a cocoon-like shell reduces its size, and the Protostar Pokémon is only 4" tall. However, in this new form, it is shockingly one of the heaviest Pokémon in existence, clocking in at well over 2000 lbs.
Cosmoem still looks adorable but at this stage, it begins to show signs of its inevitable transformation into the Legendary Pokémon, Solgaleo or Lunala. In the anime, Nebby spends most of its time as a Cosmog, but it does briefly show off its evolved form Cosmoem when captured by Faba, only to evolve further into Solgaleo a few episodes later.
6 Joltik, The Attaching Pokémon
Size: 4"
Joltik is the dual Bug and Electric-type Pokémon shown in Season 14, Episode 28 "Oshawott's Lost Scalchop!" This small Pokémon is found by Ash's Oshawott while looking for its scalchop, or shell, that was lost during a battle.
When the Oshawott disturbs the poor Joltik, it is greeted with a powerful zap and Joltik retreats into the grass. Being such a small Pokémon at 4" and 1.3 lbs, finding this Pokémon on the ground can be difficult, as they normally hop a ride on the body of other Pokémon while also soaking up the static energy since it is unable to do so on its own.
