Bend Studio’s action-adventure, post-apocalyptic Days Gone made a prominent mark on the zombie survival games. The plot introduces infected people who can run, climb, travel in giant hordes, and are abnormally strong. Alongside his best friend Boozer, Deacon St. John hopes to find his presumed to be dead wife.

The game's storyline may be interesting, but many of its plotlines are highly improbable. In addition to several clichés and coincidences, there are so many aspects of the game that don't add up. Here are ten things in Days Gone that just don’t make sense. Warning, spoilers ahead.
10 A Surplus Of Supplies
Days Gone opens at 731 days, meaning that it’s been two years since the outbreak first began. At this point, resources are scarce, but also much more abundant than you’d expect. If you ride Deacon’s bike to a gas station, he can still fill up right at the pump.
Merchants have a limited amount of supplies that are refilled frequently. Bike parts, ammunition, and weapons are available when visiting a merchant in a community. How are they finding these supplies this far into the end times?
9 Deacon's Lack Of Volume Control
Throughout Days Gone, Deacon has the option to take down enemies using stealth rather than rushing through, guns blazing. Stealth is often the most logical strategy, especially when dealing with large numbers of enemies that are spread apart.
What doesn’t make sense, is how loud Deacon speaks while he’s in stealth. Whether he’s planning to silently take down the Rippers, Freakers, or Marauders, Deacon's volume is much too loud for someone avoiding detection. In reality, he would immediately be spotted.
8 Deacon Hasn't Contracted The Virus
Like many other post-apocalyptic zombie games, Days Gone has its own unique plague and infected people. It’s explained that the zombies, called Freakers, became this way due to a fast-spreading virus. This aspect of the story is typical for the genre, but what doesn’t add up is how Deacon hasn’t turned yet.

The virus afflicted so many people at a rapid pace, so it must be highly contagious. Throughout the gameplay, you’re frequently fighting with Freakers and clearing out their nests. Unless he’s immune, Deacon should have contracted the virus.
7 The Rippers’ Origin
The Rest in Peace cult is one of the recurring enemy factions that you face throughout the game. Their reason for organizing is explained, but their mission statement is bizarre and convoluted. The Rippers supposedly worship the Freakers, so why haven’t they tried to turn? And if they like the Freakers so much, why do they hold them captive?
It’s understandable that in a post-apocalyptic setting you’d be looking for a sense of community, but most people would opt for one that doesn’t involve intentionally scarring your body.
6 Boozer's Drunken Journey
After losing his arm, Boozer starts drinking and struggling emotionally while adapting to his new lifestyle. To give Boozer a sense of purpose, he’s helping Lost Lake at the farm.
Deacon discovers that Boozer never returned with the workgroup, so he searches for him using his tracking abilities. While you're searching, you’ll begin to notice how much ground you’re covering. Considering that he’s drunk and was around other people, it’s highly unlikely that Boozer walked that far from the farm, especially without being noticed.
5 Skizzo At Wizard Island
While at Lost Lake, Skizzo is exiled from the community instead of being executed. You may think you’ve seen the last of him, but somehow while in the militia, where you’ve already reunited with your thought to be dead wife, Skizzo ends up at the same location.

In addition to being in the same location, Skizzo is already a trusted member despite just arriving there. Similar to Sarah, it’s too coincidental that the two of them wound up at the same camp.
4 Boozer’s “Death”
When Boozer and Deacon travel to Wizard Island to rescue Sarah, they plan to create an explosion to accelerate their attack. Here, Boozer could have easily jumped out of the truck with Deacon, but instead, he pushes him out of the truck and says his last words.
It’s suggested that Boozer is dead, but later in a plot twist, it's revealed that Boozer is still alive. Considering how unusual Boozer’s presumed death is, it’s not clear why this scene was necessary, other than for pure shock value.
3 Sarah's Survival And Reunion With Deacon
Deacon’s main motivation in the days following the outbreak is finding his wife, Sarah. He has seemingly accepted Sarah is probably dead, but still holds out a shred of hope that she's alive.

Deacon and Sarah are reunited after he travels to a random location. Alhough it may be heartwarming, this aspect of the story feels far-fetched.
2 Captain Kouri And The Ring
After leaving Lost Lake, Deacon meets Captain Kouri, a member of the militia. When meeting him, Deacon notices that Captain Kouri is wearing the ring he gave to Sarah when he last saw her.
You later discover that Sarah is alive and a member of the militia, and she explains to Deacon that she wasn’t allowed to have any personal belongings. This response would have made sense if it weren't for Captain Kouri now wearing the ring.
1 NERO And O’Brien’s Secret Ending
The National Emergency Response Organization plays a recurring role throughout the plot. While listening in on NERO’s research, you learn that the Freakers are evolving at an accelerated rate, but you don’t see the results of this evolution until you reach the secret ending of the game.
O’Brien reveals that he’s infected with the evolved Freaker virus, but mentally, he’s seemingly fine. He informs Deacon that NERO will be coming for everyone, but it’s not clear why. What reason would NERO have to be so vehemently against this positive development? Why is the organization so scared of people being alright even if they're infected with the virus? And why is it coming after everyone?
