This huge variation in the number of Pokémon allows for some of the most compelling and competitive battling in gaming.

While it’s important to build a varied team that has defensive walls to balance the attackers, one of the most vital stats to have on a team is Speed. High Speed allows Pokémon to attack first, potentially knocking out an opponent Pokémon before theirs has even moved and claiming an instant advantage in battles.

Updated November 30, 2022 by Tom Steel: Pokémon is expansive and constantly growing. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet may have divided opinions since their November 2022 release, but nobody can deny that most of the new species introduced have been impressively creative. Miraidon and Koraidon are the cover legendaries for Violet and Scarlet respectively, with the latter being rooted in ancient times.

Koraidon is a Fighting-Dragon Legendary that has an impressive spread of stats, with 135 Attack and Speed leading the way. Koraidon is lovable throughout its Scarlet storyline appearances but can also be a serious battler when called upon.

While Scarlet's Koraidon favors physical offense to suit its Fighting and Dragon-type combination, its Violet counterpart Miraidon opts for enhanced Special Attack to support its Electric typing. In contrast to Koraidon's ancient roots, Miraidon is a futuristic and flashy Paradox Pokémon.

Miraidon and Koraidon may be vastly different, but they share the same base stat total of 670 and 135 Speed. They are both used as transport Pokémon throughout Scarlet & Violet, befitting of their respective designs, and this justifies their impressive Speed stat.

Scarlet & Violet have introduced various new concepts with their new Pokémon, from Paldean regional variants to convergent species, but Paradox Pokémon stand out as the most intriguing. Koraidon and Miraidon stand out as the Gen IX Paradox legendaries, but there are several other Paradox forms that follow suit.

Violet has the curious Iron Bundle, a Water-Ice Paradox Pokémon with a robotic twist on the Gen II species, Delibird. Iron Bundle may have dreadful HP and Special Defense stats, but with 124 Special Attack and 136 Speed, Delibird could astonishingly get some sort of representation on the competitive scene.

17 Barraskewda Leaps Into Action To Surprise Its Opponents

There isn't too much especially unique or interesting about the pure Water type, Barraskewda, at first glance. The Skewer Pokémon was introduced in Gen VIII and actually boasts an impressive base stat total of 490, but is heavily weighted towards Speed and Attack.

At 123 Attack and 136 Speed, Barraskewda can surprise its foes with some sudden bashes from nowhere, for some serious physical damage. Barraskewda finds itself in impressive company in terms of its natural speed, being comparable to various Mega Evolutions and Legendary Pokémon.

16 Zamazenta Is Faster Without The Rusted Shield Than With It

The two Legendary Dog Pokémon of Sword & Shield, Zacian and Zamazenta share the same stats when not wielding their trademark Rusted weapons and both clock in at 138 base Speed. However, while Zacian gets quicker when armed with its Rusted Sword, Zamazenta loses Speed as it favors Defense with its shield.

The Steel typing of the Crowned Shield form brings up numerous additional type resistances, but the pure Fighting-type Hero of Many Battles keeps this Warrior Pokémon among the quickest legendaries of the franchise. Yet it is still outclassed by its Sword counterpart in this department.

15 All Of Mewtwo's Forms Have Impressive Speed & Power

Mewtwo will always be cherished as one of the first Legendary Pokémon of the entire franchise, not to mention being among the most intelligent and powerful of all time. Mewtwo has commanded its appearances in the games and the anime, and in X & Y it received Mega forms.

14 The Ghost-Dragon Dragapult Is Menacingly Quick

Base Speed: 142

Dragapult was introduced in Gen VIII as Sword & Shield's pseudo-legendary contribution. Dragapult stands out with its Ghost/Dragon-type combination as well as its formidable offensive prowess. Dragapult has 120 Attack and 100 Special Attack, but it's the 142 Speed that is the most terrifying of the bunch.

Dragapult has proven to be popular on the competitive scene since its introduction, as it can hit hard and fast. The only Gen VIII Pokémon faster than Dragapult happen to be the legendaries Zacian, Regieleki, and Shadow Rider Calyrex.

12 Mega Sceptile Is Terrifying Offensively With Its Speed & Attack Stats

Base Speed: 145

Sceptile was a fan-favorite Pokémon before, but X & Y introduced Mega Sceptile and somehow made it even better. While normally a pure Grass type, Sceptile's Mega Evolution gains the Dragon typing, one of the best types in all of Pokémon.

Mega Sceptile can't utilize too many Dragon-type Moves, but it still has plenty of fantastic Grass-type moves to get STAB with. Mega Sceptile is frail, yet its Speed and Special Attack enable it to be a real threat to any team and a solid choice of Pokémon.

11 Accelgor Has Impressive Speed & Special Offense Going For It

Base Speed: 145

Accelgor ready for battle in the Pokemon anime

Accelgor is a pure Bug-type Pokémon that, in addition to its great Speed stat, also has a great Special Attack. Accelgor can learn some very powerful utility moves such as Spikes, which is one of the best entry hazard moves in the game.

Unfortunately for Accelgor, the only solid STAB move it has is Bug Buzz. Accelgor is a great utility Pokémon, and while it won't stay on the field for long, it can use support moves to make it harder in the long run.
