Are videos on Reddit playing without sound? While Reddit disables sound on videos that automatically play, it's easy to turn sound back on. If videos tagged as NSFW or that contain adult content stay muted on the mobile app, there's an easy workaround to get sound on those videos. This wikiHow article will guide you through how to get sound on Reddit videos using your phone, tablet, or computer.
Does Reddit Have Sound?
Reddit does have sound if a GIF or video was uploaded with audio—you just have to tap the microphone on the bottom right. That said, Reddit’s audio is often buggy, and they block audio from NSFW hosting sites, so you will encounter some issues while browsing.

Why isn’t sound playing after turning it on?
If you’ve tried turning the sound on, this is just a known bug. If you see a little megaphone logo on the bottom right of the video, and you can turn it on and off but nothing is playing, you’ve encountered the famous Reddit sound bug. What if the sound doesn’t come back? Check the Reddit app for updates and update it if needed. If the sound still isn’t coming on, check your phone’s system for an update (iOS or Android). Still no luck? Try reinstalling the Reddit app.

How to Turn the Sound On
1 Launch Reddit. Go to Reddit’s website or open the Reddit mobile app. This process is identical regardless of whether you’re on the mobile app or the website.
2 Go to a video that you want to watch. If you're using the mobile app, you won’t be able to view NSFW content unless it’s enabled in your profile.
3 Click or tap the video to make it larger. It should fill the screen or open the thread in a web browser and start playing without sound.
4 Click or tap the speaker icon. This icon looks like a speaker with an x next to it in the lower right corner of the video.
If the video does not have an audio track, you won't see this icon.
To mute the video, tap this icon again.

Why aren’t NSFW videos playing sound?
The Reddit mobile app may not be able to play audio from the hosting site. If a NSFW video has been uploaded to Reddit directly, Reddit will play the sound if there is sound available (it’s possible the upload file didn’t have sound in the first place). However, if the video or GIF was uploaded via a third-party hosting site and that hosting site is NSFW, the Reddit app will block the audio.
The Reddit official app does not currently support audio from most of the popular NSFW image and video hosting sites (like Redgifs or Gyat).
You should still be able to hear the audio on the desktop website. This should only be a problem on the Reddit app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad. If you pull the same video or GIF up on a computer, you should be able to play any audio.

Enabling NSFW Content on the Mobile App
1 Log in to your account in a web browser. You'll have to use a web browser first before you can use the mobile app. Visit Reddit and log in with the same account you use to browse on the mobile app.
2 Click your profile photo and select Settings. Your profile photo is in the top right of the web page. If you’ve never selected a photo, it’ll be a little cartoon icon of a Reddit mascot. Select “Settings” at the bottom of the menu.
3 Select the Profile tab and turn NSFW posts on. The “Profile” menu is the second to the right. Open those settings and look underneath “Curate your profile” for NSFW. Toggle that option so it’s highlighted and turned on ().
Once the switch is colored and pointing to the right, you'll be able to see both adult and content tagged as NSFW in your feed and in your search results.
4 Tap the speaker icon on video and GIF posts (if necessary). NSFW videos may play audio immediately, making it unnecessary for you to tap the speaker icon. However, if you can't hear anything, you'll need to unmute the video first.
