Tresseme is now facing a class-action lawsuit due to its Keratin Color Care Collection containing DMDM hydantoin. This formulation is what allegedly caused over 100 buyers to report hair loss and thinning. As a result, news of the dmdm hydantoin lawsuit went viral on social media platforms like TikTok.

Generally, we are exposed to small amounts of formaldehyde every day. For instance, formaldehyde lurks in pollution and sometimes in plastic bottles. Although there is controversy on whether or not formaldehyde releases in cosmetics can lead directly to these negative side effects, I prefer to stay on the safe side. If I can lower my exposure to formaldehyde and other harmful ingredients by swapping my shampoo, I am more than happy to.
