2020 Eastern Newfoundland Region NL20-CFB01

On June 11, 2020, the C-NLOPB announced its Call for Bids in the Eastern Newfoundland region (NL20-CFB01). The call included 17 parcels of land and a total of 4,170,509 hectares with water depths ranging from 270 to 3,100 m. The Call for Bids closed on November 4, 2020.

Six of the parcels in the Orphan Basin area were newly posted acreage and were the focus of our 2020 Independent Resource Assessment covering 15,000 km2. Results of the Resource Assessment show 11.1 billion barrels of oil and 24.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas potential offshore.

Located 250 km north-northeast of St. John’s, the 2020 license round occurred over the NL20-CFB01 sector. The sector rests in the central portion of the North Eastern Newfoundland region within the Orphan Basin.
