The first Colorado prep product off the board in the 2022 MLB Draft was 2019 Legend alum and Oregon State outfielder Justin Boyd, who went 73rd overall to the Cincinnati Reds in the Competitive Balance Round B. Boyd becomes the highest MLB draft pick with Colorado ties since David Peterson, a 2014 Regis Jesuit grad and former Oregon Duck, went 20th overall to the New York Mets in 2017. Peterson is currently in his third MLB season with the Mets. He becomes the earliest player from Legend to be drafted, and is the sixth Titan drafted all-time. The previous highest Legend alum to be taken was current Boston Red Sox infielder Bobby Dalbec, who went in the fourth round (118th overall) out of Arizona in 2016. Next off the board was 2018 Monarch grad, Andrew Morris, who went in the fourth round to the Minnesota Twins. Morris had a couple stops in his college journey, spending the first three seasons at Colorado Mesa before transferring to Texas Tech this past season. He becomes just the third player from Monarch drafted all-time, and the first since 2015. A third Colorado high school alum went in round seven, as 2019 Pine Creek grad Riley Cornelio was taken 201st overall by the Washington Nationals out of TCU. Coming out of Pine Creek, Cornelio was a highly touted recruit as he was named the 2019 Gatorade Colorado Baseball Player of the Year and was considered the top prospect in the entire state by Baseball America. He was ranked as the 46th best prospect in the 2019 MLB Draft, but went unselected on account of his strong commitment to play at TCU. On day three, Tayler Aguilar, who went to Frontier Academy but played baseball for Northridge, went in the 15th round by the New York Yankees out of Grand Canyon. Aguilar becomes the first Northridge baseball player to ever be drafted into the MLB. Cherry Creek added to its impressive MLB legacy, as 2018 grad Tanner O'Tremba was selected out of Arizona by the San Francisco Giants also in the 15th round. The former Bruin started his career at Texas Tech. O'Tremba becomes the 52nd Cherry Creek player drafted all-time, the most in the state, and the first since 2018. In the second to last round of the draft, 2017 Niwot alum Skyler Messinger went to the hometown Rockies out of Texas. Messinger was originally drafted out of Niwot in the 2017 draft, being picked in the 22nd round by the Chicago Cubs, but turned down pro ball to attend Kansas, where he spent the first four seasons of his college career. It is the eighth time a Niwot player has been picked in the MLB Draft. The final Colorado product selected in the 2022 draft was Cornelio's teammate at Pine Creek, 2019 grad Drake Logan, who went in the 19th round to the Chicago White Sox. Logan has spent the past three seasons at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and is signed in the 2022 recruiting class at Alabama. Logan and Cornelio become the fifth and sixth Pine Creek grads drafted all-time, and the first since 2017.
