Which Keurig Do I Have?

Each Keurig coffee maker has a serial number that tells you exactly which model you own. The serial number should be in one of three places:

1. Behind the water reservoir (visible once removed)
2. Behind the drip tray
3. On the bottom of the machine

The serial number tells you whether you have a K55, K425, K-Elite, or one of the other 80+ models Keurig has manufactured over the years.

Don't see your favorite Keurig coffee maker among the 20+ models listed above? That means Keurig doesn't actively manufacture it anymore. But fret not! Most of their discontinued models are still available on Amazon, Walmart, eBay, and other online marketplaces, and many of them are fine to purchase and use today (with a few exceptions, which we'll explain below).

Keurig B30 Mini Series At A Glance

Keurig's original "Mini" K-Cup model, the B31 has a max 10 oz brew size with its "fill before each use" reservoir. Now discontinued, it's been replaced by the identical-looking K15 and upgraded K-Mini.

Keurig B30 Mini Series Overview

The Keurig B31 is the only model in the B30 series and was Keurig's first Mini coffee maker. Discontinued and replaced by the K15, the B31 truly is mini. Its water reservoir needs to be filled before each use up to its 10 oz max brew size.

The B31 measures less than 11" in every direction with a somewhat narrow 6.9" width that was great when it was first released but seems bulky with the release of Keurig's new 4.5" K-Mini.

Keurig B30 Mini Series Buyer's Guide

The Keurig B31 is a small, simple coffee maker with no extra features. It's best for occasional coffee drinkers who don't mind measuring out their water and refilling the reservoir before each use. But even then, go with the nearly identical (and still in-production) K15.

If you're looking for Keurig's newest mini coffee maker, check out the K-Mini. It has the same "fill before each use" brew method but includes Keurig's updated brewing system and a larger 12 oz max brew size in a smaller 4.5" package.

If the K10's 6.9" width is fine, you may like the K-Compact. It's a touch larger at 8.2" wide but has a 36 oz removable water reservoir. That's definitely handy if you're a daily coffee drinker.

One of Keurig's most iconic brewers, B40 series brewers are easy to operate with a solid 48 oz reservoir, but they have just a 10 oz max brew size and no special features. Now discontinued, check out the K40 series or the in-production K-Classic instead.

Keurig B40 Elite Series Overview

Currently discontinued, the B40 series was replaced by the K40 series.

In turn, the K40 series was rebranded as the K50 series, and eventually the B40s, K40s, and K50s were all discontinued and replaced by the K-Classic, which offers many of the features you'll find on B40/K40/K50 brewers:

• 48 oz reservoir
• No Strength Control or Temp Control
• Auto-On/Off functionality and removable drip tray
• No pod-scanning system (found on Keurig 2.0 brewers) so it's compatible with all types of K-Cups

There are just two major differences between the B40/K40/K50 brewers and the K-Classic:

• The K-Classic's slightly expanded brew sizes (6, 8, and 10 oz)
• Its upgraded brewing system that ensures you're brewing with Keurig's latest and greatest technology for hotter, stronger cups

Keurig B40 Elite Series Buyer's Guide

The discontinued B40 series may still be worth purchasing if you can get one on a good deal. They doesn't have any outdated tech that limits their usability and they can still be quality brewers if you don't mind losing the small 6 and 8 oz brew sizes.

However, we really do recommend going with the K-Classic, which is currently in production, supported by Keurig, and has all of the features you'd find on K40-K55 brewers.

Keurig's first series with an LCD messaging center, B50 Signatures series brewers offer 6 and 8 oz brew sizes with a 48 oz reservoir. Discontinued and replaced by the also-discontinued K60 Special Edition series, check out the new K-Classic instead.

Keurig B50 Signature Series Overview

The B50 Signature series was Keurig's first brewer with an LCD messaging center. In fact, that was the only upgrade from the B40 series, as B50 series brewers still offered just 6 oz and 8 oz brew sizes and a 48 oz water reservoir.

To get a larger 10 oz brew size, you needed to upgrade to the B60 Special Edition series.

This B50 brewer comes with a K-Cup variety pack but no other accessories. The B55 comes with the K-Cup variety pack and a water filter starter kit.

Keurig B50 Signature Series Buyer's Guide

Keurig B50 brewers truly were Signature models when first released in 2013.

Well, it isn't 2013 anymore. While you can still find B50 brewers on Amazon, eBay, or other online marketplaces, we recommend you go with Keurig's new-and-improved K-Classic.

How does the K-Classic compare?

• Same 6 and 8 oz brew sizes + additional 10 oz brew size
• Same 48 oz water reservoir
• Same features (no Strength or Temp Controls)
• No LCD messaging center, using LED indicator lights instead
• Slightly narrower 9.8" width vs the B50's 10.1"

If it's basically the same thing, what makes the K-Classic new-and-improved?

Feature-wise, not much (just the extra 10 oz brew size). But the K-Classic is built using brewing technology and parts that are 7 years younger. That means better performance, better reliability, and better (hotter) coffee.

Keurig B60 Special Edition Overview

The B60 Special Edition is an improvement on Keurig's B50 Signature brewers. Both series offer the LCD messaging center, a first for Keurig, with a 48 oz water reservoir. So, what did the B60 Special Edition series add?

A third brew size: 10 oz.

You may also see a few other B60 series brewers from Keurig. What makes them different?

• B60: Base model
• B65: Base model + water filter starter kit
• B66: Base model + water filter starter kit + silver-colored brewing lid

Ultimately, all of the B series brewers were discontinued and rebranded as K series brewers with the B60 Special Edition becoming the K60 Special Edition. Keurig discontinued the K60 several years back, and today they have moved to their newest line of brewers with the K-Classic the closest thing to the B60/K60.

The Keurig B60 truly was a Special Edition brewer when it was first released in 2013.

Well, it isn't 2013 anymore. While you can still find B60 brewers on Amazon, eBay, or other online marketplaces, we recommend you go with Keurig's new-and-improved K-Classic.

How does the K-Classic compare?

• Same 6, 8, and 10 oz brew sizes
• Same 48 oz water reservoir
• Same features (no Strength or Temp Controls)
• No LCD messaging center, using LED indicator lights instead
• Slightly narrower 9.8" width vs the B60's 10.1"

If it's basically the same thing, what makes the K-Classic new-and-improved?

Feature-wise, nothing. But it's built using brewing technology and parts that are 7 years younger. That means better performance, better reliability, and better (hotter) coffee.

Keurig B70 Platinum Series At A Glance

Once Keurig's most acclaimed series, now-discontinued B70 Platinum brewers are still formidable models with a 72 oz reservoir, Temp Control, and 4 brew sizes from 4-10 oz. This series also includes the B79 Platinum Plus, which adds Hot Water and Rinse functions that the other B70 brewers don't have. While these B70 brewers are timeless, we recommend the new K-Elite instead.

Keurig B70 Platinum Series Overview

Five years ago, if you were to ask a Keurig user what their favorite K-Cup brewer was, there's a good chance they would have picked the B70 Platinum.

Keurig's B70 Platinum brewers were stylish upgrades to the B60 Special Edition series, offering several upgrades that made them the most powerful single-serve brewer of their day:

• Concentrated 4 oz serving size (can be used for iced beverages)
• Larger 72 oz water reservoir (60 oz on B60 series brewers)
• Temp Control

When Keurig transitioned to their K series brewers, they rebranded the B70 Platinum as the K70 Platinum and added one extra feature: a 12 oz brew size.

All of Keurig's B70 and K70 brewers are the exact same machines with different model numbers identifying different included accessories or colors, with one exception: the B79/K79 Platinum Plus.

The B79/K79 brewer added Hot Water and Rinse buttons so you could use your machine to make tea, cocoa, or oatmeal instead of just coffee.

Today, all of the B70 and K70 series brewers have been discontinued.

Keurig B70 Platinum Series Buyer's Guide

The B70 Platinum series was revolutionary in its heyday, and it's still a solid option if you can find one at a good price. However, it lacks two features that are pretty close to standard on Keurig's newest line of brewers:

• Eccellenza Momentum: Large, customer-facing brewer with 18" interactive touchscreen for 10 types of coffee and specialty beverage options for high-traffic settings. A whole new level of commercial K-Cup coffee from Keurig.

After initially launching all of their models under the B Series, Keurig decided to rebrand their brewers with Ks instead of Bs in the model numbers. (They are named "Keurig" after all.) As a result, almost all K Series brewers have a discontinued B Series counterpart that's almost identical in both style and specs. Today, most of these K Series brewers are discontinued as Keurig promotes their latest and greatest in brewing tech with their Keurig Classic Series.

Keurig K10 Mini Series At A Glance

The successor to Keurig's original B31 Mini, the K10 Mini Series includes two models: the K10 and K15. Both are nearly identical to the B31. Like the B31, the K10 has been discontinued but the K15 is still in production today.

Keurig K10 Mini Series Overview

The K10 Mini Series truly is mini. Each brewer's water reservoir needs to be filled before each use up to their 10 oz max brew size. These brewers measures less than 11" in every direction with a somewhat narrow 6.9" width that was great when the K10 Minis were first released but seems bulky today with the release of Keurig's new 4.5" K-Mini.

Keurig has released over 70 different coffee makers over the years, and only about a dozen of them are still in production. One such in-production model is the K15.

Keurig K10 Mini Series Buyer's Guide

Keurig K10 Mini Series brewers are small, simple coffee makers with no extra features. They're best for occasional coffee drinkers who don't mind measuring out their water and refilling the reservoir before each use.

If you're looking for Keurig's newest mini coffee maker, check out the K-Mini. It has the same "fill before each use" brew method but includes Keurig's updated brewing system and a larger 12 oz max brew size in a smaller 4.5" wide package.

If the K10/K15's 6.9" width is fine, you may like the K-Compact. It's a touch wider at 8.2" but has a 36 oz removable water reservoir. That's definitely handy if you're a daily coffee drinker.

The K40 Elite Series is one of Keurig's flagship brewers and was introduced as an upgrade to the B40, though the two models have the exact same specs. Currently discontinued, the K40 has been replaced by the K-Classic, which offers many of the same features:

What's the difference?

The K40 and K45 were originally released as Keurig's K-Elite brewers. Both came with the K-Cup variety pack, but the K45 also came with the water filter starter kit. Then, in 2015, Keurig rebranded the K40 and K45 K-Elite brewers as the K50 and K55 K-Classic brewers.

Keurig K40 Elite Series Buyer's Guide

The discontinued K40 Elite Series is still worth purchasing, but only if you can get a good deal. These brewers don't have any outdated tech that limits their usability and are still quality models if you don't mind losing the 6 oz brew size.

If you like the K40 but want to add a water filter starter kit, take a look at the K45.

In 2015, Keurig rebranded the K40 and K45 K-Elite brewers as the K50 and K55 K-Classic brewers.

Currently discontinued, the K50 Classic Series has been replaced by the actual K-Classic, which offers many of the same features:

• 48 oz reservoir
• No Strength Control or Temp Control
• Auto-On/Off functionality and removable drip tray
• No pod-scanning system (found on Keurig 2.0 brewers) so it's compatible with all types of K-Cups

There are just 2 major differences between K50 Series brewers and the K-Classic:

• K-Classic's slightly expanded brew sizes (6, 8, and 10 oz)
• K-Classic's upgraded brewing system that ensures you're brewing with Keurig's latest and greatest technology for hotter, stronger cups

Like the K40 Elite Series, the K50 Classic Series has two models: the K50 and K55. They're the exact same machine with the only difference being the K55's included water filter starter kit.

Keurig K50 Classic Series Buyer's Guide

The discontinued K50 Classic Series may still be worth purchasing, but only if you can get a good deal. They don't have any outdated tech that limits their usability and they're still quality models.

If you like the K50 but want the included water filter starter kit, take a look at the K55.

However, we really do recommend going with the K-Classic, which is currently in production, supported by Keurig, and has all of the features you'd find on K40 Elite and K50 Classic brewers.

K60 Special Edition Series models are advertised as Keurig's "mid-luxury" brewers because they offer several luxury upgrades over similar K40, K50, and K70 series models:

• Temp Control (187-192°F)

Most of these features were pretty revolutionary when the now-discontinued K60 brewers were first released, earning them the "Special Edition" label.

What's the difference between the the various K60 Special Edition brewers?

• K60: Comes with K-Cup variety pack
• K65: Comes with K-Cup variety pack and water filter starter kit
• K66: Honestly, we aren't sure as we can't find this model for sale anywhere

If you're considering a K60 brewer, remember this model has been discontinued. In our Buyer's Guide below, we'll identify a few alternative for you to consider instead.

Keurig K60 Special Edition Series Buyer's Guide

A discontinued series and one of Keurig's first with an LCD display, K60 Special Edition brewers introduced several new features the company has since gotten better at making. Even if you could find a K60 brewer for sale somewhere, there just isn't a good reason to buy it.

(Unless you have some emotional attachment to it, maybe because it's the machine your dad used to make a cup of coffee when he finally told you he was proud of you.)

• If you're looking for an in-production brewer with the same 60 oz reservoir and brew sizes, check out the K-Select or K-Elite.
• If you're digging the LCD message center and want something more than the standard button-only Keurig interface, check out the K575.

Full disclosure: The K575 is also discontinued, but it has the large reservoir you're looking for an an interactive 2.8" XL color touch display.

Keurig K70 Platinum Series At A Glance

Once Keurig's most feature-rich brewers, the K70 Platinum Series brews 4-12 oz coffees with a huge 72 oz reservoir and Temp Control. One K70 model (the K79), actually is its own sub-series called the Platinum Plus, which offers everything the other K70 brewers have plus Hot Water and Rinse modes. With all K70 brewers now discontinued, take a look at the K-Elite. It offers everything on the K70 and a bunch more.

Keurig K70 Platinum Series Overview

The K70 Platinum Series featured Keurig's top-of-the-line home brewers until the Keurig 2.0 brewing system came out.

These brewers expanded your brew size options from 4-12 oz, giving them the largest K-Cup size available to this point, and their 72 oz reservoir meant fewer refills.

While revolutionary at the time, today those features are fairly standard. And these K70 brewers don't even have Strength Control, which was added later on.

K70 Platinum brewers can be tough to find these days, but you may come across 5 different models: K70, K71, K75, K77, and K79. What's the difference?

• The K70, K71, K75, and K77 are the exact same brewer with different model numbers denoting different included accessories, like K-Cup variety packs, water filter starter kits, and descaling solution.
• The K79 is a different brewer with everything the other K70s have plus Hot Water and Rinse buttons.

All of these K70 series brewers have been discontinued, so we'll recommend a few in-production alternatives that give you an even better brewing experience.

Keurig K70 Platinum Series Buyer's Guide

Keurig K70 Platinum Series models are impressive, feature-rich K-Cup brewers...if the year is 2014.

In all seriousness, K70 brewers aren't bad machines, and none of their options or features have been discontinued or are no longer supported. If you can find one at a good price, I can think of worse brewers to buy.

But I'd rather stick to something currently in production with Keurig's latest and greatest brewing system.

For that, the K-Elite is your best bet. It shares the same 4-12 oz brewing sizes, large water reservoir (75 oz), and Temp Control, but the K-Elite adds several improvements:

• Strength Control
• High Altitude setting
• Iced and Hot Water modes
• A sleek, durable, brushed metal exterior
• Quicker brew speeds

Unfortunately, it doesn't have any type of LCD display, but is that worth buying a brewer that's 6 years old?

Not to us.

Keurig Vue Series Overview

Originally released to give customers the ability to brew a larger, hotter cup with a max 18 oz brew size (16 oz on the V500), Keurig ultimately decided to discontinue its Vue brewers because they weren't popular enough to justify the hassle of producing special K-Vue pods.

These Vue brewers used Keurig 2.0's pod-scanning system (also known as DRM or "Digital Rights Management") to lock out unlicensed third-party pods while simultaneously having programmed brewing instructions of the pod you selected.

This is the same system found on Keurig's brewers, which also have been discontinued.

But that doesn't mean Vue brewers are totally worthless today. You can actually buy an inexpensive adapter to use either K-Cups or ground coffee with any K-Vue brewer.

With the adapter, there's actually an advantage to owning a K-Vue brewer: You can brew a 16 oz coffee. We wouldn't recommend doing that with a K-Cup (it would be too watered down) but you could definitely make a good tall cup with your own ground coffee.

Of note, the V1200 and V1255 are both commercial models and are identical. The only difference is where they were originally sold with the V1200 available through Authorized Keurig Distributors and the V1255 available through office supply stores like Office Depot.

Keurig Vue Series Buyer's Guide

A discontinued series, there's little advantage to owning a Vue brewer. Their biggest selling point (large K-Vue pods) is negated now that Keurig doesn't manufacture them anymore.

If you're looking for larger serving sizes, take a look at the K-Duo. It can brew either single-serve K-Cups up to 12 oz or multi-cup carafes up to 60 oz.

If a full (or even half) carafe is still too much for you, check out the Keurig 2.0 series with model numbers from K200-K575. These machines can brew 14, 16, 18, 22, 26, and 30 oz cups/carafes, but they're also pod-scanning DRM machines that have been discontinued.

However, you can buy a Keurig 2.0 My K-Cup to use ground coffee, allowing for stronger brews while bypassing the DRM system. Many Keurig fans say these Keurig 2.0 brewers are the best Keurig has ever made with the K475 and K575 especially beloved.

Keurig's first machine designed to brew lattes and cappuccinos, the Rivo has since been discontinued and replaced by the Keurig K-Cafe and K-Latte. We'd go with one of those, but you can still find the Rivo online.

Keurig Rivo Series Overview

Keurig has discontinued the Rivo and released their new K-Cafe and K-Latte brewers.

Why did they discontinue the Rivo? Popularity and difficulty providing support for the brewer.

• Popularity: As an espresso-only system that doesn't brew standard coffee, the Rivo just couldn't compete with any of Nespresso's awesome capsule-based specialty beverage brewers.
• Support: The Rivo uses special K-Rivo pods, which aren't used in any other machine. In order to support the Rivo, Keurig needed to keep producing these pods, which just wasn't financially sustainable.

That's why they released the K-Cafe and K-Latte, both of which brew standard coffees and specialty beverages solely using K-Cups! These brewers appeal to a wider audience and are easier for Keurig to maintain.

What's the difference between the K-Cafe and K-Latte?

• K-Cafe: Keurig's best brewer for specialty beverages, the K-Cafe has a 60 oz water reservoir and brews both standard 6-12 oz coffees and coffee concentrate for specialty drinks. Its dishwasher-safe frother has 3 modes for lattes, cappuccinos, and cold foam.
• K-Latte: Designed more as a standard coffee maker with a concentrated coffee mode, the K-Latte has a 36 oz reservoir, a max 10 oz brew size, and comes with a non-dishwasher-safe frother with a single froth mode for lattes.

Keurig Rivo Series Buyer's Guide

Today, there's no good reason to buy the discontinued Rivo, mostly because Keurig just doesn't manufacture the Rivo pods anymore.

That leaves you with two choices: the K-Cafe or K-Latte.

Go with the K-Cafe if you're a specialty beverage enthusiast. Its 3 frothing modes, including cold foam, really make a big difference. You might think of lattes and cappuccinos as "espresso with frothed milk," but the froth is different for both. Latte foam is more uniform, smooth, and silky. Cappuccino foam is much fluffier and aerated with hot milk on the bottom. And, of course, the cold foam setting is great for iced specialty beverages.

Go with the K-Latte if you're a coffee drinker who enjoys the occasional specialty drink (mostly lattes, obviously) and you don't mind the max 10 oz brew size.

Keurig K500 Series Overview

K500 brewers offer several nice-to-have upgrades over K400 brewers:

• 80 oz water reservoir (from 70 oz)
• 2.8" XL color touch display (from 2.4" color touch display)
• Hot Water mode
• Iced mode
• Water tank nightlight

They're the most premium home use brewer Keurig has ever made and a customer favorite. Unfortunately, they've lost much of their utility since being discontinued as Keurig no longer makes the K-Mug and K-Carafe pods that make the 2.0 series stand out.

Keurig K500 Series Buyer's Guide

As a discontinued series, it's our duty to provide you with alternatives currently in production. If you're looking at getting a Keurig 2.0 brewer (models K200-K575), take a look at these brewers instead:

• K-Duo: Keurig's replacement for their 2.0 brewers, the K-Duo brews both single-serve K-Cup coffee up to 12 oz and full carafes up to 60 oz (double the volume of Keurig 2.0 brewers). What the K-Duo loses from 2.0 brewers are the 14-18 oz "large cup" brew sizes and the K-Carafe pod. Instead, you brew carafes by dosing ground coffee into the reusable Gold Tone mesh filter.
• K-Elite: Keurig's high-end home coffee maker, the K-Elite maxes out at 12 oz (so no full pots) but it has every other premium feature: 75 oz reservoir, Hot Water and Iced brew modes, Strength and Temp Control, a High Altitude setting, and a durable, brushed metal exterior that looks better than any Keurig brewer to date.

As for the K500-series brewers (this is a Keurig K500 review, after all) here are the differences:

• K500: Comes with carafe and K-Cup/K-Carafe variety pack
• K525: Comes with Keurig 2.0 My K-Cup
• K545: Comes with Keurig 2.0 My K-Cup
• K550: Comes with carafe, K-Cup/K-Carafe variety pack, and water filter starter kit
• K560: Comes with K-Cup/K-Carafe variety pack and water filter starter kit
• K575: Comes with K-Cup/K-Carafe variety pack and water filter starter kit

Bottom Line: If you're seriously considering the K500 (or any other Keurig 2.0 brewer), just get the K-Duo. It's the same type of brewer, only better. But if you're dead-set on getting the K500, well, just click the button below.
