The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado represents a complete overhaul (re-engineering and redesign) of the midsize pickup truck, and marks the first model year for the Colorado nameplate’s third generation.

Model Line

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado offers five trim levels:

• WT (Work Truck)
• LT
• Trail Boss
• Z71
• ZR2

Body Styles

The 2023 Colorado is only offered this time around with the following cab and bed configuration: Crew Cab, Short Box.

Changes and Updates

The all-new 2023 Chevy Colorado features a new powertrain and plenty of on-board technology in a totally revised cabin. It is packaged in a redesigned body riding on a platform that is more off-road capable across the line. The new truck is available in five trim levels – WT, LT, Z71, ZR2 with or without the new Desert Boss package, and the first-ever Trail Boss, which was formerly offered as a package on some model years of the second-gen Colorado.

The all-new 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also arrives for the next-gen truck for the 2024 model year. Originally debuting for the 2019 model year, the Bison takes the off-road-ready Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 to new heights of capability, throwing in a variety of improvements thanks to a collaboration with aftermarket manufacturer American Expedition Vehicles (AEV).

While a few components of the all-new model carry over from the current model, including some of the frame and cab structure, just about everything else was overhauled, including the sheetmetal, propulsion, and interior.

Outside, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado adopts a more technical, premium look compared to the previous generation. LED lighting is offered for Z71 and ZR2 trims, while wheel sizes range between 17 and 20 inches in diameter and even 22 inches. There’s also a new built-in StowFlex Tailgate storage system, which is equipped as standard on ZR2, and offered as optional for the rest of the lineup.

Inside, the 2023 Colorado boasts an all-new interior, with four unique interior trims on offer. Standard spec includes an 11.3-inch diagonal color infotainment screen, as well as an 8-inch diagonal color Driver Information Center. An 11-inch DIC is standard and only available on the ZR2. All displays are customizable. Standout onboard tech includes the standard Chevy Safety Assist package, which rounds up features like Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist. Adaptive Cruise Control is available across the lineup.

Powertrain

Just one powertrain is offered on the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado but in three states of tunes.

Under the hood  resides one engine – the turbocharged 2.7L I-4 gasoline engine, in three states of tune. The tunes range from 237 to 310 horsepower and from 259 pound-feet of torque to 390 and 430. The base turbocharged 2.7L I4 engine gets an L2R RPO Code while the two up-level tunes will carry the familiar L3B designation.

The engine is mated to the second-gen GM eight-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel-drive standard on WT and LT trims and four-wheel-drive optional on those and standard on Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2. Axel ratio is 3.42.

The maximum weight a 2023 Colorado can tow is 7,700 pounds, which requires the optional Trailering Package (RPO code Z82) and Limited-Slip Differential (G80).

Platform

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado rides on the updated 31XX-2 platform, which it shares with its corporate cousin, the 2023 GMC Canyon.

Production

The 2023 Colorado will continue being assembled at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri by GM USA. The GM Sao Jose Dos Campos plant in Brazil will produce the vehicle for the South American market.
