While you cannot change your PayPal.Me link yourself, you can try contacting customer support or disabling your link so others cannot use it. In this wikiHow article, we'll teach you how to contact PayPal's customer support to ask for help with your PayPal.Me link, plus we'll go over how to disable your PayPal.Me link in case you don't want anyone to see it.
Changing a PayPal Username
Unfortunately, there's no way to change a PayPal.Me link. You can try contacting PayPal support, but they may not be able to help you. If you don't want anyone to see your PayPal.Me username, you can remove it from your PayPal profile using a web browser.
Steps
Section 1 of 2:Contacting Customer Support
-
1 Go to the PayPal contact page. You can do so by visiting paypal.com/us/cshelp/contact-us in a web browser on your computer or phone. -
2 Click Message us. You'll have to scroll down to find this option. It has an icon of two sparkles. A chat box will open in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Advertisement -
3 Click Account issues. If you're not prompted to select a button, type "account issues" into the chat box. -
4 Type speak with someone (or something similar) in the chat box. You'll need to get past PayPal's AI support chatbot to speak to a real person. To do this, type something along the lines of "speak with someone" or "talk with a customer support agent." -
5 Click Yes when prompted. The PayPal assistant will ask if you want your message forwarded to a customer support agent who will respond within a few hours. Click Yes to continue. -
6 Explain the issue to the customer support agent. Explain why you need to change your PayPal.Me link. However, be aware that the support agent may not be able to accommodate your request, as PayPal doesn't allow changes to PayPal.Me links.[1] Advertisement
Disabling the Link
-
1 Open PayPal in a browser. You can use a web browser on your desktop or phone. - There was previously a way to disable your PayPal.Me link in the mobile app, but that functionality has since been removed.
- If you're not signed in to PayPal, do so now.
-
2 Click the gear icon at the top of the screen. In the upper-right corner, directly to the left of the LOG OUT button, there's a gear icon. This will open your PayPal settings. -
3 Click Manage next to your PayPal.Me link. When you open PayPal's settings, it will bring you to the "Account" tab by default. The Manage button will be under the button that says "Change Name", on the left side of the screen. -
4 Toggle off "Anyone can see and send money to your PayPal username." This option is under the "Profile status - on" header. -
5 Click Turn Off. This will confirm that you want to disable your PayPal.Me link. The username and link will still exist, but you can't get paid with it while it's disabled. Advertisement
