Slime is fun to squish, stretch, and hold in your hands, but it is even more satisfying if the slime is glossy! You can make your own glossy slime using ingredients that you might already have. Use borax or contact lens solution to activate your slime ingredients. Then, try adding optional ingredients to your slime for extra fun!

How to Make Smooth and Satisfying Glossy Slime

According to expert slime maker Amy Sheree, the secret ingredient to glossy slime is glycerin. Use school glue for thin slime, or Glue All for thicker slime. Add about 2 teaspoons (9.9 mL) glycerin per 1 cup (240 mL) glue, plus your borax activator. Let the slime sit for a few days to release any bubbles.

• 2 cups (480 mL) of white glue
• 2 to 3 drops of food coloring
• 2 tbsp (30 mL) baby oil
• 8 pumps of foaming hand soap
• 1-2 tbsp (15 to 30 mL) of borax activator

Mixing up Contact Lens Solution Slime

• 2 cups (480 mL) of white glue
• 2 tsp (10 g) of baking soda
• 2 to 3 drops of food coloring
• 4 tsp (20 mL) of lotion
• 2 tsp (10 mL) conditioner
• 2 tbsp (30 mL) baby oil
• 4 tbsp (60 mL) of contact lens solution

Creating Borax Activated Slime

1. 1 Pour 2 cups (480 mL) of white glue into a bowl. Glue is the base of most slime recipes. Choose a plain white school glue, such as Elmer's. Measure out the glue and pour it into the bowl.[1] [2]
   • Adding clear glue will enhance the shine of your gloss slime.[3]

   Make sure to use a bowl that has a 4 cup (960 mL) or larger capacity!

2. 2 Add the baby oil, hand soap, and food coloring and mix. Add 1 tbsp (30 mL) of baby oil, 8 squirts of hand soap, and 2 to 3 drops of food coloring into the bowl as well. Then, use a large spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients until they are well combined.[4] [5]
   • Choose a scented hand soap for scented slime! You can also opt for a colored hand soap to add a tint to your slime, but you will likely still need food coloring to make the color noticeable.
   • Choose any food coloring you like for your slime, such as yellow, green, blue, or red![6] You can also combine 1 drop of 2 colors to make a different color, such as 1 drop of yellow and 1 drop of red to make orange slime, or 1 drop of red and 1 drop of blue for purple slime.[7]

3. 3 Mix 1 tsp (5 g) of borax with 2 cups (480 mL) of warm water to make activator. The ingredients will not become slime until you add an activator, but you will need to mix the activator separately.[8] Stir 1 tsp (5 g) of borax into 2 cups (480 mL) of warm water until they combine into a uniform solution.[9]
   • Store the extra activator in a jar or plastic container at room temperature and use it as needed to make additional batches of slime. Use the activator within 6 months for best results.

   Tip: Put the activator into an empty hand soap bottle for an easy way to dispense it. 2 squirts of activator is about equal to 1 tbsp (15 mL).

4. 4 Add 1 tbsp (15 mL) of activator and mix everything together. You may need to add 1 to 2 more tbsp (15 to 30 mL) of activator to get the slime to form. Mix the ingredients after each addition until the slime pulls away from the bowl as you stir. Then, use your hands to knead the slime.[10]
   • The slime is ready when it is smooth and stretchy! Store it in an air-tight container when you are not playing with it. The slime will last for 3 months or longer if you store it properly.

Mixing up Contact Lens Solution Slime

1. 1 Pour 2 cups (480 mL) of white glue into a bowl. Start with a base of plain white school glue. Measure and pour it into a large mixing bowl.[11]
   • Make sure that the bowl can easily hold 4 cups (960 mL) or more.

   Tip: Purchase an economy sized bottle of white glue. This way, you will have some on hand the next time you want to make slime.

2. 2 Add 2 tsp (10 g) of baking soda and mix. Measure out the baking soda and add it to the bowl with the glue. Then, use a spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients together until they are well combined.[12]
   • Make sure to break up any clumps of baking soda in the bowl. Press the clumps with the back of the spoon or spatula and mix well.
3. 3 Dye the ingredients with a few drops of food coloring. Add 2 to 3 drops of food coloring and then stir it into the baking soda and glue mixture. You can use any color you like to dye your slime. Opt for a primary color, such as blue, yellow, or red, or combine 1 drop of 2 colors to make another color.[13]
   • For example, you can combine 1 drop of yellow and 1 drop of red to make orange slime, 1 drop of blue and 1 drop of yellow for green slime, or 1 drop of red and 1 drop of blue for purple slime.[14]
4. 4 Stir in the lotion, conditioner, and baby oil. These ingredients will help to make your slime glossy and pliable. Add 4 tsp (20 mL) of lotion, 2 tsp (10 mL) of conditioner, and 2 tbsp (30 mL) of baby oil to the bowl. Then, stir to combine everything together.[15]
   • Make sure that the ingredients are well combined before you complete the recipe or the slime may not form properly!
   • If the lotion is colored, then it may add a tint to the slime, but you will likely still need food coloring to a more noticeable color.
   • Use a scented lotion or conditioner to add a pleasant fragrance to your slime.
5. 5 Mix in the contact lens solution to complete the recipe. After the ingredients are well combined, pour in 4 tbsp (60 mL) of contact lens solution. Stir everything together until the slime starts to separate from the bowl. Then, use your hands to knead the slime.[16]
   • Your slime is ready when it stretches easily without breaking and looks smooth! Store your slime in an air-tight container when you are not using it. It will last for 3 months or longer if you prevent it from drying out.

Customizing Glossy Slime

1. 1 Add scent with a couple of drops of essential oil. If you want to create aromatic slime, choose an essential oil and add 1 to 2 drops to your slime before you add the activator or contact lens solution. This will add a pleasant aroma to the slime that you can enjoy while you play with it.[17]
   • Choose any scent you like to add to your slime. Opt for peppermint essential oil for a fresh scent, try lavender essential oil for something relaxing, or go with patchouli for a rich, bold scent!
   • Essential oils are often available in the beauty supply section of grocery stores and online.
2. 2 Create texture with microbeads. For glossy slime with some texture, get some plastic microbeads and add 1 cup (240 g) of them to your finished slime. Knead them into the slime and then enjoy the added texture sensation.[18]
   • Choose any color of microbeads you like. Opt for blue beads with blue slime if you want them to blend in. Try white beads with red slime for contrast. Go with brown beads in green slime for something extra gross looking.
   • You can purchase plastic microbeads in craft supply stores.
   • You don’t have to add microbeads, as it’s your choice!
3. 3 Accent your shiny slime with glitter for a sparkly touch. If you want slime that is glossy and sparkly, choose 1 cup (240 grams) of the glitter of your choice. Knead the glitter into your finished slime until the glitter and slime are well combined.[19]
   • You can use any color of glitter you like! Try adding pink glitter to purple slime, add yellow glitter to green slime, or mix silver glitter in with plain white slime.
   • Glitter is available in craft supply stores.
   • Again, you don’t have to add glitter, as it’s your choice.
