String is an important crafting material in Minecraft; it is used to craft a wide variety of items such as bows, fishing rods, and wool. However, string is not an item that can be crafted, so it must be found in the world. This article highlights three methods of finding string in Minecraft.

String from Spiders

1. 1 Find a spider and kill it. It has a random chance to drop anywhere from zero to two pieces of string.[1]
   • Don't forget that spiders are able to climb walls.
   • Spiders are neutral during the daytime. They will remain passive unless attacked by a player, causing them to turn hostile.

String from Dungeon Chests

1. 1 Search for dungeons when mining. In the dungeons, there will be up to two chests that contain various rare items, such as string.[2]
   • Almost any chest can yield string, so don't just focus on dungeons.

1. 1 Keep an eye out for cobwebs and tripwire when exploring the map. You can find cobwebs in strongholds and abandoned mineshafts, and you can find tripwire in jungle biomes.[3]
