Sprinting in Minecraft lets you move much faster while walking, and a little faster while swimming or flying. The downside is a much faster drop in hunger, so stock up on food or save this for emergency situations. If you know the controls but they aren't working, you might be below the minimum hunger required to sprint.
Steps
Method 1 Method 1 of 3:Minecraft for PC or Mac
-
1 Double tap the forward key. This is W by default. Press and hold after double-tapping to keep sprinting forward. You will move 30% faster than usual, and your field of view will become slightly wider.[1] -
2 Use the sprint key instead. Tap left control while moving forward to start sprinting. - If this doesn't work, open the Esc menu and go to Options → Controls to assign a key to sprint.[2]
-
3 Stop moving to stop sprinting. Your character will continue to sprint until you release the forward key, collide with a block, or interact with a mob. If you tapped the sprint key, you will stop sprinting after thirty seconds, but can turn it on again right away. - You can turn left and right as usual while sprinting, though this slows you down slightly.[3]
- While sprinting, you can jump four blocks horizontally instead of two. Your jump height does not increase.[4]
-
4 Stay above six hunger. You can only sprint while you have at least six hunger (three food symbols in your hunger bar). Eat some food and try again if your stomach is empty.[5] - Sprinting uses up your saturation and hunger 10 times faster than walking. Jumping while sprinting uses them up 80 times faster than walking.[6]
-
5 Sprint with other modes of transportation. You can hit the sprint key while swimming as well, or while flying in Creative mode. This will only increase your speed a little bit, but your field of vision will widen. If you are on a vehicle or mount, your field of vision will widen but your speed will remain the same. - If you don't use the sprint key, instead start sprinting on the ground, then double tap space to start flying.

Console Edition
-
1 Flick the left analog stick forward twice. This is the same stick you push forward to walk normally. To sprint, just push it forward twice, as fast as you can. -
2 Hold forward to keep sprinting. After the second push, keep the stick forward. Your character will continue to sprint until you release the analog stick, collide with a block, or interact with a mob. -
3 Keep your hunger above six. If you drop below six hunger (three food symbols), you cannot sprint.[7] Advertisement
Pocket Edition
-
1 Double tap forward. Touch the forward button twice and hold it down to sprint. You will move at double speed, but will use up hunger much faster than walking. - While sprinting, you can jump three blocks forward instead of two.
-
2 Stop moving to stop sprinting. To return to normal speed, just let go of the forward button, then walk forward again with a single tap. You will also stop sprinting if you collide with a block or fight a mob. -
3 Eat food if your hunger is low. Your Minecraft character needs energy for all that running. If your hunger drops below four food symbols, you cannot sprint.[8] - If your version of Minecraft does not have hunger, you are playing an old version that does not have sprinting.[9] Connect your device to the internet and open Minecraft to download the latest update.

Verin Top Answerer Lecterns have the following uses: 1) You can display books on them by using a book & quill on them. 2) They can create a redstone signal; whether it produces one or not, depends on whether it's holding a book or not, and the strength of the signal is determined by how many pages of the book have be turned. 3) They can be used to change a villager's profession to that of a Librarian, by simply placing one down next to an unemployed villager; after a few seconds the villager and the lectern wiill produce some green sparkles and the villager change into a Librarian uniform. 4) Because they're made of wood, they can be used as fuel in a furnace, smoker, or blast furnace. Tips
- Try cleaning your game controller or restarting your gaming console if the sprinting feature fails to work during Minecraft gameplay. In some cases, dust and dirt buildup in the controller can prevent your character from sprinting, while system lag can also cause problems with sprinting.[10] Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
- Hold down the jump key while sprinting to travel extra fast, but rapidly deplete hunger. If you do this under a two block high ceiling in PC edition, you will travel at double walking speed, but consume one hunger point every second.[11] Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
Warnings
- Your character will stop sprinting when it collides with a solid block, or sneaks, attacks, or blocks a mob. Plan your Minecraft gameplay strategy keeping these factors in mind. Thanks Helpful 6 Not Helpful 0
- Sprinting will reduce your player's saturation level, and deplete your hunger level at a rate of one-half every 40 meters (130 ft) or seven seconds after saturation hits zero. Keep in mind that your character will no longer be able to sprint when the hunger bar reaches three or below. Thanks Helpful 4 Not Helpful 0
