STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Orange creamsicle, peanut butter fudge pretzel or Cookie Craze . . . which will be your first lick of the season at Ralph’s Ices? The opportunity to taste came for Staten Islanders Thursday, Feb. 25 when four borough franchises reopen for the season.

Kristie and Stephen Lazzara welcomed customers back to 6390 Amboy Rd., Pleasant Plains; 890 Huguenot Ave., Huguenot, 1071 Bay St., Rosebank and 2351 Hylan Blvd., New Dorp. Each location opens around noon daily and closes at approximately 11 p.m. In addition to the service window customers can use Door Dash, Uber Eats, Postmates and Grub Hub.

“We’re ready to put a fork into winter and a spoon into Ralph’s ice!” enthused Stephen. He said the Lazzaros will take a cue from Groundhog Chuck’s optimistic outlook on an early spring.

New flavors will be announced as the season warms up. Last years’ most popular picks were Jelly Ring, Spumoni, Rainbow and Lemon. In 2020, a few seasonal selections were absent from the inventory because of sourcing issues.

“Sour cherry didn’t pop on the menu board. Honeydew and cantaloupe generally come in July,” said Lazzara, but the melons didn’t materialize.

It’s not so for 2021.

“Everything’s back now!” said Lazzara.

Separately owned, the Port Richmond flagship Ralph’s typically opens in late April.
