Foam mattresses are very comfortable and easy to maintain. If you need to clean a foam mattress, you should take a cautious approach to the use of water and cleaning liquids. Foam mattresses can easily trap water or other liquids inside the mattress, especially if excessive amounts of liquid or aggressive scrubbing is used. To care for a foam mattress, it is best to use a mattress cover, vacuum regularly and use only moderate amounts of water and cleaning liquids.[1]

Cleaning a Foam Mattress

Remove the bedding. Vacuum hair, dust, and crumbs using an upholstery attachment. Spot-clean stains by spraying a vinegar-water mixture or sprinkling baking soda directly on the stains. Finally, deodorize with baking soda or a light misting with a citrus-based cleaner. Dry out the mattress in the sun or with a fan.

If the mattress gets wet, it could easily get mildew.
    • Never saturate the mattress with water or a cleaning agent.
    • Instead of using a steam cleaner or a wet rag, you should use a spray bottle. You are less likely to get the mattress excessively wet if you mist the mattress with a small amount of water using a spray bottle.
