The original Declaration of Independence lies in the National Archives exhibition hall in Washington DC since 1952.

The Declaration of Independence shares home with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Who guards the declaration of Independence?

The State Department is in charge of protecting the declaration.

"We are enshrining these documents for future ages," President Harry S. Truman said while finishing the actual "home" of the Declaration of Independence.

"This magnificent hall has been constructed to exhibit them, and the vault beneath, that we have built to protect them, is as safe from destruction as anything that the wit of modern man can devise."

During World War II, Kentucky kept the Declaration of Independence document in the Bullion Depository at Fort Knox.

According to History, the Declaration of Independence is under heavy surveillance and bulletproof glass.

"Sealed in a gold-plated titanium frame, with bulletproof glass and cutting-edge safeguards against light and moisture, it remains under constant surveillance by armed guards and security cameras," History published.

"Every night, it is lowered into a vault (along with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, considered the other essential founding documents of the United States)."

Who printed and distributed the Declaration of Independence?

According to the information gathered through the centuries, John Dunlap printed an estimated 200 poster-sized copies of the Declaration of Independence manuscript.

The documents were distributed throughout the 13 colonies.

"As the text was printed and proclaimed in public readings across the colonies, communities tore down royal symbols and celebrated with toasts and huzzahs," said Emily Sneff, a doctoral student of history at William & Mary.

The Declaration of Independence has a gold-plated bronze door frame.

It is covered with double plate glass to keep the sun's rays from damaging it.

It has a ballistically tested glass and a $3 million system monitor.
