This year, World Bee Day falls on May 20. The day sees many bee advocates raising awareness and calling for stronger measures to protect the bees, as well as other pollinators, from extinction.

While bee stings can be a pain (pun intended), its honey is an irresistible yet healthy sugar alternative that even Winnie the Pooh can't resist. Honey has long been praised for its health benefits, acting as an anti-inflammatory, and having anti-bacterial properties. Anaya

It all started by chance in 2013, when founders Terry Tong and Gary Chin went to the Philippines in search of pili nuts. They ran into a group of local beekeepers whose bee farms had hives with unusual structures that interest the duo. They even tried the honey off them which had a very unique sweet-sour taste, and voila – Anaya was born (but not until in 2015). Anaya's signature Trigona honey ($45.90 for 140g) is quite exclusive due to the production of honey by stingless bees, which is much less as compared to regular honey bees. The benefits of this organically farmed honey include high active levels, anti-bacterial, and low sugar.

Go Pure

It wouldn't come as a surprise that the son of the secretary of the International Bee Association decided to run a honey business – after all, he knows more about bees than most of us. Go Pure began when Jason Koh decided to give the family business a facelift by expanding it online. The online store carries its very own line of honey, as well as the bee-related products from his father's brand Uniflora. Go Pure specialises in natural and organic honey that comes from the Linden ($30-$40) and Acacia ($35-$45) flowers. Acacia honey benefits the respiratory system and blood circulation, while Linden honey relieves stress and anxiety. It also offers raw honey with watercress and eucalyptus ($33) which is a great anti-inflammatory, organic rose honey ($66) for its hydrating properties, and multi-flower honey ($25) which is high in multivitamins.
