BLEACH TIE-DYEING DIYUSING 5 TECHNIQUES

Lots of major Fashion label brands are using traditional tie-dying techniques in their latest collections this season, so why not create your own versions with an old t-shirt, sweat tops or any wardrobe piece you think might look great having a hippy vibe feel. How to Bleach Tie-Dye Instructions

Supplies - Piece of Cotton Clothing (T-shirt, Sweat top, Shirt, Jogging pants, Hoodie etc) I am using socks - Elastic bands - Bleach - Spray bottle or squeeze bottle The techniques I will be showing you are with Black crew socks, but all techniques can be used with all clothing as long as it has a colour base. For example, white t-shirts have no dye in them so will still be white t-shirts when using bleach. Bleach can be used on any 100% cotton dye-coloured fabric and based on what pigments are in the dye, different colours or shades will be the end result. Tutorial With your elastic rubber bands, you can create different patterns and designs. Each technique is unique in its own way, every time you try them and can be used on all clothing. You can end up with amazing fashionable TikTok Instaworthy pieces. Gather your clothing pieces together and your rubber bands and get ready to experiment with this easy DIY. TECHNIQUE 1 SIDE ROLL Place your garment flat and roll from one side to another. You could also do this from top to bottom or bottom to top on larger fashion garments like T-shirts. Once rolled tight, place as many elastic bands around the roll as you like. This tie-dye method will create lines across the fabric. TECHNIQUE 2 SQUASH Place your garment flat and start squashing the fabric together and quickly tie the rubber bands around randomly so it looks messy but tightly fixed together. This will create a true tie-dye 70's style and give you a classic retro look. TECHNIQUE 3 TRIANGLE FOLD Place your garment flat and start folding the garment downwards to make triangles as you fold. Once folded tight, place an elastic band around the fold. TECHNIQUE 4 SQUARE FOLD Place your garment flat and fold the garment in even squares over and over again Once folded tight, place elastics bands around the fold in a cross pattern. TECHNIQUE 5 LONG ROLL Place your garment flat and roll from the small area downwards or upwards, depending on the look you are after. Once rolled, place some elastic bands around the roll.

HOW TO BLEACH YOUR FABRIC CLOTHING

The next step is to bleach and tie-dye your fabric. Place the bleach into a little spray bottle and spray randomly and all over outside in the fresh air on some plastic or a surface that can be damaged by bleach.
  • Let the clothing sit for 5 mins, 1 hour to a few if needed. Once you see the colour contrasts you like, that is when it's time to wash out the bleach.
  • Take all the rubber bands off
  • Rinse all the bleach out
  • Wash in the machine
  • Hang outside to dry
  • Once dry you can wear
Always wear gloves when working with bleach and write on the bottle with a marker "BLEACH" so no one will ever use the bottle for non-bleach use. Bleach is a dangerous chemical, so work in a well-ventilated space while protecting your skin and eyes. Remember when bleaching black fabrics, the end result will go a rust-orange colour, not white.
