7 MCU Characters Who Were Recast For Sequels

6. Fandral

Josh Dallas Zachary Levi Thor
Marvel Studios

Original: Josh Dallas

The Replacement: Zachary Levi

Though he was rather unceremoniously killed off in the opening act of Thor: Ragnarok, Fandral was an important part of Asgard's mythology as one of the Warriors Three.

He was originally set to be played by Zachary Levi, but the third season of Chuck was extended from 13 episodes to 19 and he was forced to pull out. Josh Dallas then stepped in for the first movie, but then when it came to The Dark World, Dallas' profile had risen thanks to success on Once Upon A Time and he was forced to pull out himself, to his dismay.

However, Zachary Levi was available at that point and took on the role he was supposed to play in the first place for The Dark World and Ragnarok.
