Dark Brown Tan Light Blue White or Cream Red Orange Yellow Gold SilverNavy blue has earned its place in our permanent wardrobes as an inspired neutral hue: Whether you opt to rock the shade in suit or slip dress form, it's incredibly versatile and makes a statement without being too bold. But if you really want to stand out and create a look with more layers to it than a sea of dark blue, varied styling is key. While blue is the warmest color, too much of it can leave you feeling blue instead of inspired. Your shoe color specifically can dress a navy ensemble up or down and take your look to the next level: Read on for nine shoe colors to wear with a navy outfit, from shades of brown to statement-making metallics.

Brown is my favorite color to pair with navy. It gives you that vintage feel you always wanted—you can thank none other than Jackie O for this one. Wearing navy blue and brown instantly transforms you into a classic sophisticate: you’re effortlessly put together but ready to go. I love a strappy brown closed-toe shoe, a chunky clog (especially paired with a slip dress), or a dainty mule for dressy-but-not-black-tie occasions.

I love tan because a lighter-colored shoe creates an unexpected feel that's still a neutral while taking on a refined new air. It's business casual for the fun girl who is down for anything—except getting dirty. When thinking of a navy suit, I immediately thought of pairing it with lace-up sandals as a barely-there footwear choice. However, another option is a cool slide, and I personally love these mesh ones from SheKudo.

Keeping it in the same color family, I like the idea of pairing navy with a lighter shade of blue. It gives a monochromatic effect that's versatile across seasons, is currently trending, and if you style it right, you won't look like a member of the Blue Man Group. Try Mary Janes or satin slides for a weekend brunch, or opt for a foldover boot for a high-fashion moment. These would be especially cool if your navy ensemble happens to be a shorts suit.

White is a no-brainer when you’re styling navy—and who says you can't wear white all year? I love the idea of pairing a navy dress with everyday white classic Converse sneakers. White shoes also are ideal to recreate warm-weather joy: Whether you're going for a long walk, a boat ride, or just hanging out, white and blue has a classic summer vibe, even if it's the dead of winter.

I know this seems a little overly Americana, but I think that red is a home run if done right. When pairing your navy with red, add some other colors for your other accessories, like a yellow beaded necklace or some green hoop earrings or bag. It will make the outfit cheerful and fun. Adding some extra color to your wardrobe is something that will always bring a smile to your face, whenever you get dressed.

To really turn up the volume, wear navy with its complementary shade, orange. Orange is usually a statement shade, but it can also be a neutral in a muted shade and minimal style—not to mention this is some great baseball game outfit inspo for Mets fans. Orange Adidas Sambas could spice up a slip dress, while closed-toe flats and kitten heels can be the star of the show paired with navy shorts and a matching navy tee.

The cheeriest color of them all is yellow. If you’re going to wear yellow with your navy outfit, go all the way and choose a more saturated hue. I love the idea of dressing up a suit with satin yellow heels, spicing up casual ensembles with Onitsuka Tiger's viral Mexico 66 sneakers, or pairing some everyday navy shorts or a dress with yellow Mary Janes.

Navy and gold are so timeless together. Gold is a straightforward way to instantly kick your navy up a notch.

For another metallic shoe option, silver shoes have been trending as of late and are sure to add a cool modern touch to your navy ensemble. Whether you go for slingbacks, loafers, or cowboy boots, a bold silver moment will garner compliments galore.
