Whenever we hear the word 'milkshake', we can't help but have the musical lyrics of Kelis' tune come to mind: “My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard/ And they're like, it's better than yours/ Damn right, it's better than yours/ I can teach you, but I have to charge.” Now that’s out of the way, we can concentrate on where to get the best of these indulgent American dessert-drinks. Thick, sweet, creamy and in all sorts of flavours and textures, this guilty pleasure is worth a decadent treat. Here’s where to find the best milkshakes that will make you seek their "yard."

We love a thicc shake and the ones on the menu at Wildfire certainly deliver. They have the classics with The Original Vanilla ($10), Chocolate and Strawberry ($12) milkshakes. Those wanting to indulge even more, there’s the mouth-watering Triple Chocolate, the sweet-salty Peanut Butter Pretzel and the worth-the-kick Bailey’s Oreo milkshake. Throw all limitations aside and sink into the milkshakes here as well as their tasty burgers.

The Bank stocks creamy milkshakes ($12.50) made exclusively from Häagen-Dazs ice creams. Classic flavours are a must with vanilla and chocolate but these shakes can be amped with the addition of Reese’s peanut butter cups ($2). For an extra kick, a Baileys milkshake ($17) is also available. Go here for their near-faultless take on a classic American cheeseburger and wash it down with their milkshakes.

Offering nine crazy concoctions, Cotton Candy ($24) – a strawberry shake topped with lollipop, rock candy, whipped cream and cotton candy – and Cake Shake ($22), which is decorated with a funfetti cake slice, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and cherry, are the crowd-favourites. If all that sounds too sweet for you, opt for its classic shakes ($12) – nutella and peanut butter are our faves – which are less intense or balance things out with its famed juicy craft burgers.

Come on, this is childhood nostalgia. Our first milkshakes were most likely ones from McDonald's. Super thick and decadent, they are probably more indulgent than their sundaes. Did you know their milkshakes were first created as a breakfast dish for commuters? Drive through and take-away a filling enough "meal" that's easy to ingest while getting to work. Sounds about right to us.
