The Abandoned Mine Shaft[note 1] is a mythical location located in Great Chaparral in Grand Theft Auto V. It is only accessible in the next-generation versions of the game.

Description[]

The mine shaft may have originated with the California Gold Rush or other Wild West era mining prospects, but this is only fan-speculation based on the mine's age and abandonment. No official game sources acknowledge the mine or give information on its history.

In the original release of Grand Theft Auto V, the mine shaft is inaccessible and it's only purpose is to serve as a landmark for the nearby letter scrap collectable. Players were still able to glitch inside the structure, only finding a small black interior containing a few stone walls. In future editions of the game, the mine shaft has a fully modeled interior that can be accessed by destroying the outside door with an explosive. There are railroads, dead ends and several different mining tools located inside.

On the first track of the road, there is an Easter egg. At a fork in the shaft, there is a dead body of a man wearing a classic 1940s suit. There's also a film reel. The body is of a animated cartoon maker named Isaac who Fred Quincy killed, because he may have known a secret. The body under the water could be his wife, or a friend, who also may have known said secret.
