Why MRI is better

Abdominal Organs

Since the abdominal organs are so close together, multiparametric MRI can capture images of each particular type of organ tissue, and reveal any abnormalities within each organ.

Did You Know?

The abdominal cavity is the largest hollow space in the body. It contains most of the digestive tract, the liver, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and adrenal glands.

It’s hard to imagine how well the abdominal organs fit together. In fact, they are very well organized as they nestle against each other. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can produce clear, 3D images of the entire abdomen showing each organ. If a diagnosis is needed for a particular organ such as the liver, a special kind of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) called multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) uses various combinations of scanning sequences in order to focus just on that organ’s unique tissue. Thus, mpMRI can be used to detect and diagnose abnormalities in the abdominal organs, including:

  • Liver
  • Spleen
  • Pancreas
  • Adrenal gland
  • Kidney
  • Small intestine

Making Abdominal MRI Efficient and Comfortable

The Sperling Diagnostic Group’s magnet features optimized technology for abdominal scans. Conventional magnets do not compensate for organ movement within the abdomen caused by breathing and bowel motion. This means that patients are required to lie extremely still and hold their breath for uncomfortable periods when instructed to do so.

Our magnet takes the discomfort and anxiety out of abdominal scans because it is capable of ultra-fast image capture to overcome the problem of internal motion. If breath holding is required at all, it is very brief. For many imaging sequences, our magnet can “recognize” the patient’s breathing cycle and work with it as patients are given simple instructions. This means minimal scan time with greater ease, comfort and confidence for each patient.
