Galion was platted on September 10, 1831, and flourished when two rail lines came through town in the 1850s. Today it is a rural city of just over 10,000 people located in southeastern Crawford County, and some of the corporation limits extend into Richland County and Morrow County.

Galion is located approximately half way between Cleveland and Columbus.From US 30: Galion has two exits, State Route 598 and State Route 61. At the SR 598 exit, turn south and follow the highway into town. At the SR 61 exit, turn south and drive 1.2 miles. Turn right on SR 309/61 and follow the highway into town. Turn left at the Donley Ford car dealership.From the south: Follow State Route 19, 61, or 309 into town.Nearby communities include: Bucyrus to the west, Crestline to the north, Ontario to the east, and Mount Gilead to the south.View map
