Background (in a nutshell):

Leon is the Champion of the Galar Region in Pokemon Sword & Shield, and has maintained this position for numerous years up until the events of the game. After his defeat at the hands of the game’s protagonist (so Gloria or Victor, depending if you played as a boy or girl in the game), he, more or less, becomes the new Chairman of Macro Cosmos, taking over leadership of several of their projects—including turning Rose Tower into the Battle Tower to pursue his dream of Galar Region trainers becoming the most powerful in the world.

Personality:

As the Champion, Leon is super-outgoing, super-friendly, and willing to step in and try to solve any problems that arise in Galar (especially evident when Rose attempted to start up the Darkest Day late in the game). Unfortunately, because he is a Champion, he constantly has to deal with having a public persona and that can get in the way of things for him. He also lacks a decent sense of direction, given how constantly he gets lost without his Charizard to guide him. He also tends to be too “in the moment” at times and doesn’t think too much of future consequences during his time as Champion (though it does get better later on by post-game). It’s also implied that he’s not great at taking a loss, as evidenced by his reactions in being defeated in the Championship and in the Battle Tower, though this is likely the outcome of him being undefeated for several years up until these times.

However, he is very supportive of other Gym Challengers, including the Sword & Shield’s protagonist and his little brother Hop, and he’s willing to look out for them when things get tough (especially since they’re kids and Leon is a grown adult who does not want said kids getting in danger, as especially shown with him trying to defend Hop and Gloria from Eternatus late in the main game). It also seems that he’s just as friendly with his fellow Gym Leaders as well, given his rivalry with Raihan, for example. He also dreams of the Galar Region’s trainers becoming the best in the world, as shown through his conversion of Rose Tower into the Battle Tower, as well as his new shift of mindset to make things better for the future so future generations can enjoy Pokemon battling just like he did.

Normal League Card: “Leon is known far and wide for taking part in the Gym Challenge at the tender age of 10 years old—and even more so for claiming victory in the Champion Cup on his first attempt. Ever since that victory, he and his partner Charizard have remained unbeaten in both League and exhibition matches. He is called “the unbeatable Champion” and is a hero to many Trainers. He has but one weakness: a dismal sense of direction. But don’t worry—wherever he ends up, he makes sure everyone has a champion time!“

Rare League Card: “Leon’s dream, even when he was still the Champion, was to make Galarian Trainers the strongest Trainers in the world. In order to fulfill that dream, he has rebuilt Rose Tower into the Battle Tower, a facility dedicated to Pokémon battles. People say that he seems even more lively now than he was as Champion. Leon has also commented that another reason he likes the tower so much is because it’s impossible to get lost inside. Leon’s biggest problem now is apparently coming up with a new signature catchphrase to replace “Let’s have a champion time!”“
