This Acai Smoothie is creamy, energizing, and packed with healthy ingredients like Acai, berries and chia seeds, making it perfect for breakfast or a post-workout boost. You can also add some protein powder to this smoothie like I add to my Green Protein Smoothie and Berry Protein Smoothie for an extra protein-boost!
As someone who’s been sharing viral smoothie recipes for over 10 years that have reached millions of people here on the blog and on Instagram, I know how to make a smoothie that tastes amazing and makes you feel good. This one has the café-style vibe of an acai bowl but is more budget-friendly, and comes together in just 5 minutes. Trust me, you’ll want to make this one again and again!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Quick and easy: Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s perfect for busy mornings or an afternoon snack.
- Energizing and satisfying: Made with peanut butter and chia seeds for healthy fats, fibre, and a touch of protein to keep you full. If you love peanut butter in smoothies also try this Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie!
- No added sugar needed: Naturally sweet from banana and berries, so there’s no need for additional sweeteners.
- Tastes like a smoothie shop: This acai berry smoothie is just as delicious as one from a smoothie shop, without the $15 price tag.
- Loaded with antioxidants: Acai is rich in antioxidants, making them a great choice for your health.
- Customizable: You can tweak the fruit, milk, or add-ins to make it your own!
Where To Buy Frozen Acai
Acai is sold in frozen acai puree packets or as a freeze-dried powder. You won’t likely find actual acai berries anywhere.
You can find frozen Acai packs or Acai powder at most health-food stores in North America. There are also some online health-food stores where you can have Acai shipped directly to you. The brand I use for this smoothie is called Sambazon and they also deliver from their website.
Key Ingredients

- Frozen Acai: Acai smoothies or acai bowls are best made with frozen acai packets as opposed to powdered acai. The packets are made with 100% pure acai and blend up into a delicious smoothie or Berry Acai Bowl.
- Banana: Use frozen banana to make the smoothie thick and creamy. You can also substitute banana with frozen mango like I use in this Mango Avocado Smoothie.
- Berries: I use mixed frozen berries. You can any combination of berries you like or just one type of berry here like blueberries or strawberries.
- Peanut butter: nut butter pair well with acai and make this smoothie creamy and nutty. You can substitute peanut butter with another nut or seed butter such as almond butter or tahini like I use in this Date And Banana Smoothie, or you can leave this out for a nut-free version.
*This is a recipe overview. The full recipe with measurements is below in the recipe card.
Customize It
- Switch up the fruit: Try mango, pineapple, or cherries instead of mixed berries.
- Make it high in protein: Add a scoop of protein powder or a spoonful of Greek yogurt.
- Add greens: Toss in a handful of spinach like I add to this Matcha Green Tea Smoothie for an extra nutrient boost. (Promise you won’t even taste it!)
- Switch up the liquid: Use any type of milk or swap it for some apple juice, pineapple juice or coconut water.
How To Make An Acai Smoothie

Step 1: Start by letting the frozen acai packet defrost just a bit. (they can be very hard when fully frozen and a bit hard to blend.

Step 2: Add all the ingredients to a high-speed blender starting with liquids, then fresh ingredients and frozen ingredients on top.

step 3: Blend until smooth and creamy.

Step 4: Serve in a glass as is or with your favourite toppings.
Jess’s Tips
- Add liquids first: Always add the almond milk to the bottom of the blender before anything else. Then layer in fresh ingredients, and frozen fruit on top. This makes it easier for the blender to blend everything smoothly.
- Use frozen fruit: Make sure at least one fruit (like banana or berries) is frozen to help create a thick, creamy texture. If you use all fresh fruit, the smoothie will turn out thin.
- Use ripe bananas for sweetness: Since acai has a slightly tart taste, ripe bananas help naturally sweeten the smoothie without needing extra sweeteners.
- Use coconut milk for a creamier smoothie: For a richer texture and more tropical flavour, use full-fat coconut milk instead of almond milk.
- Add toppings: give it a smoothie bowl vibe by adding some maple pecan granola, or a drizzle of nut butter or chia seed jam.
- Turn it into a smoothie bowl: Double the banana and acai pack, and reduce the almond milk to ¼ cup. This creates a thick, spoonable texture perfect for a bowl. You’ll need a high-speed blender or food processor to blend it properly.
