Active pause is a feature of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. It allows you to pause the game without opening up the menu, which in turn lets you take screenshots without worrying you’ll crash, change the controls, and more. How to use active pause in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020?

It’s pretty simple really. All you have to do is press the Pause button on your keyboard. It’s in the top right, in a separate section at the end of the row where the F# keys are. Press it, and the game will come to a halt. You’ll be able to enjoy the surroundings, take screenshots, take the boiling kettle off the stove and so much more.

Although you might want to use the autopilot for that last one. Especially if you’re on a long trip and you have things under control. You won’t find a shortcut for it in the controls, but there’s a menu option that allows you to switch it on.

We’re not really sure how the active pause works in multiplayer, or if it works at all. Pausing the game for the entire group sounds like it wouldn’t be fun, and pausing it just for you seems like something that’s either too complicated or downright impossible.

While we’re here debating why it’s called an “active pause” when there’s no activity going on in the background when you press it, some players are experiencing serious technical issues. The game keeps crashing for many, or having poor performance on more than capable machines, and some can’t get it to download even after all this time.
