Steps

Adding by Name or Username

1. Open Venmo. It’s a blue icon with a white “V.” You’ll typically find it on your home screen.
2. Tap ☰. It’s at the top-left corner of the screen.
3. Tap Search People.
4. Type the person’s name or username. As you type, Venmo will display matching usernames.[1]
5. Select the person you want to add. The selected person’s profile will appear.
6. Tap Add Friend. This person will now be added to your Venmo contacts.

Adding iPhone or iPad Contacts

1. Open Venmo. It’s a blue icon with a white “V.” You’ll typically find it on your home screen.
   • If you allowed Venmo access to your contacts when installing the app, your contacts with Venmo accounts are already on your Venmo friends list.[1]
2. Tap ☰. It’s at the top-left corner of the screen.
3. Tap Invite Friends.
   • If you haven’t yet allowed Venmo to access your contact list, a pop-up will appear, asking you to edit your contacts settings. Tap Contacts Settings, then slide the “Contacts” switch to the On (green) position.
   • If you had to adjust your contact settings, you must re-open Venmo and restart this method.
4. Select a contact. This opens a new message to the contact, which includes a message inviting them to join Venmo.
5. Tap Send. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. When your friend accepts your invite, they’ll be added to your Venmo contact list.

Adding Facebook Friends

1. Open Venmo. It’s a blue icon with a white “V.” You’ll typically find it on your home screen.
   • Linking your Venmo account to Facebook adds your Facebook friends who have Venmo accounts to your Venmo friend list.
2. Tap ☰. It’s at the top-left corner of the screen.
3. Tap Settings.
4. Tap Social Networks.
5. Slide the “Facebook” switch to the On position. A Facebook window will appear.
6. Tap Connect Facebook. A pop-up will appear.
7. Tap Allow.
8. Sign in to Facebook. Enter your Facebook username and password, then tap Log In.
   • If you were already signed in to Facebook, your friends will begin to sync to Venmo.
   • If you see a message that says “You have already authorized Venmo,” tap OK to sync your Facebook friends.
