How to apply for a handgun permit:

Anyone wanting to apply for a firearm permit MUST go to the Indiana State Police website at  www.in.gov/isp, and apply online.  Applicants will also be required to schedule an appointment to have their fingerprints scanned at one of the Central Indiana MorphoTrust sites, which will be made available during the online application process.

After you have successfully completed the above process, you will need to wait ten days and then go to your local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which you live to complete your application.  For example, if you live in the city limits of Lebanon, you will need to go to the Lebanon Police Department, etc.  (Your driver’s license or photo ID must be valid and the address must be the same as your application address and physical address).

Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am – 4 pm. Our office also follows the Boone County Holiday schedule.  

The new permits will be hard plastic, like a credit card – no longer paper. Current permit holders will not be required to obtain a new card until theirs expires.

With this new application process, once you login and have an account, you will be able to check the status of your permit, and you will also be able to order a duplicate permit or change your address on your current permit.
