What is a AI File?

AI file extension represents Adobe Illustrator Artwork file. This graphics file format is a creation of Adobe systems for containing vector based graphics in a single page. Instead of using bitmap image data, this format is composed of paths connected by points. For the use of vector base, graphics content never loses their quality if enlarged. This format originated from the native file format PGF, which has a great resemblance with AI files. Preliminary versions of AI files are considered as the true EPS files, only with a restricted and compact syntax. The AI format is most used for logos and print media. Apart from Adobe tools AI files are also supported in PaintShop Pro.
