wcjkd W Hopefully I won't get too much hate fire this thread just looking to learn from Sig ppl who are more experienced than myself. So I'm a newbie trying to get more serious and maybe try IDpa/ U SPA. Here’s my story. So I try to get out to the range as much as I can and shoot the P3 20 compact. But each time I shoot it seems very inconsistent. So first question . 1) Because of high borax does the P3 20 have a combat sites or is it standard alignment. 2) I do try Drive fire practicing but of course that doesn’t tell you if you’re shooting straight. Any input appreciated thank you sig talk community #1 · Mar 31, 2019 Hopefully I won't get too much hate fire this thread just looking to learn from Sig ppl who are more experienced than myself. But generally-speaking SIGs are set up for a "combat" or "drive the dots" sight picture in which the dot on the front sight post is placed directly over the intended POI. The bore axis really shouldn't have anything to do with the sight picture. A high bore axis does mean your hands hold the pistol slightly lower toward the ground, but sight alignment and sight picture are not dependent on bore axis. #3 · Mar 31, 2019 The SIG bore axis myth is massively overrated as a source of muzzle flip. Video of me shooting my SIGs shows no more muzzle flip than with any other modern pistol of the same caliber. Your P320's inconsistency is probably a result of the inexperience of the guy who's holding it. Regardless of whether it is sighted for combat or "pumpkin on a post," if your fundamentals were solid you would be getting tight groups (just maybe not where you intended them). My best advice to you is to seek out professional instruction so that you can begin grooving in proper technique rather than bad habits. #4 · Mar 31, 2019 (Edited) Your post covers three separate and distinct concepts, all of which others have commented on. 1 - Recoil. High bore axis is often mentioned in the context of causing the muzzle to rise farther during recoil compared to another pistol with a lower bore axis. It comes into play when shooting rapidly. I agree with the other poster who mentioned this is largely a myth for any modern pistol and a shooter who has the fundamentals down. 2 - Sight picture. Sig pistols use a combat sight picture. This means you put the dot of the front sight post over the point you want the round to impact. This is different than a traditional "equal height, equal light" alignment and then aiming using the top edges of the aligned sights. 3 - Technique. This is all about how you hold the pistol, the position of both hands, the amount of pressure you apply to each, how you're using your wrists and arms, and of paramount importance the discipline of your trigger pull while doing all of the other things and keeping your sights in the proper place the entire time. Sounds like technique is what you really need to focus on. It's completely separate and independent of the other two. An instructor would be helpful as someone mentioned but there's also a massive amount of content on YouTube, blogs, web sites, etc from very reputable people that would help you out. #5 · Mar 31, 2019 So yes I Know I'm not experienced as some others. But what are your observations of line up sights vs combat sights. #7 · Mar 31, 2019 See the 5th post down here from Lancer. https://sigtalk.com/p250-p320-p320-x-5-pistols/345204-iron-sights-p320.html It's nothing special or exotic. Most people are probably comfortable with what's shown in Sight Image 2. With Sig's you line things up like Sight Image 3. 0 Reply #6 · Mar 31, 2019 You'll get there. Keep up with your dry fire practice. Also maybe try and get a laser cartridge and a target system with an actual target screen, so you can see where your shots are going, vs where your sights are aligned. I use them for practice at home, and also to regulate newly installed iron sights, before the range. I was going to provide a link, but the one I use has been discontinued. Also try using a target with a defined center point, as opposed to a silhouette, so you can be sure that you are lining up on the same spot each time. Start at about 7 yards, and slowly try further distances once you are tightened up. Insert Quotes Post Reply
