Alexa Yellow Light: How To Troubleshoot In Seconds
Maybe your like
As someone who frequently shops on Amazon and receives numerous package notifications every day, it’s not uncommon for my Alexa device to flash a yellow light.
In fact, I’ve become quite accustomed to seeing this yellow light on my Alexa, as it often indicates a particular status or notification related to my Amazon orders.
However, recently, I experienced a strange issue where my Alexa chimed and turned yellow. It displayed a permanent yellow light, even though there were no new notifications waiting for me.
Alexa kept announcing that I had a new notification, but when I checked the Alexa app, there was nothing there.
I tried restarting the device, but the yellow light just kept flashing. At this point, the light and the unknown reason for which it was flashing were becoming bothersome.
Therefore, I began troubleshooting the problem and eventually discovered a solution that none of the articles on the internet mentioned.
If your Alexa is yellow and it keeps saying you don’t have any new notifications, you most likely have more than one Amazon account linked to the Alexa app. Try switching the account and checking for notifications. Also, ask Alexa to ‘Clear all the available notifications’.
Ask Alexa To Delete All Notifications
If your Amazon Echo Dot device is flashing yellow, it means you have a notification from Amazon.
If you have already checked your notifications and the device is still flashing a yellow light, ask Alexa to delete all notifications.
All you have to do is say “Alexa, delete all notifications.”
After this, wait for Alexa to confirm that all notifications have been deleted.
Check For Messages on the Alexa App
If the Alexa yellow ring is still there, check for any notifications on the Alexa app. Here’s how:
- Open the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Tap the bell icon in the lower right corner of the screen. This will take you to the Notifications screen,
- Check if there are any new notifications waiting for you.
If there are, read or listen to them and the yellow light should stop flashing. However, if the yellow light persists move on to the next method.
Check For Notifications On All Connected Accounts

If you have more than one profile on your Amazon Echo device, it’s possible that a flashing yellow light could indicate a notification on one of your profiles.
However, the Echo may not be smart enough to check for notifications on all profiles when asked, only the “active” profile.
Hence, you will have to check for notifications on all connected accounts. Here how:
- Ask Alexa for notifications on the “active” profile by saying, “Alexa, do I have any notifications?”
- If there are no notifications on the active profile, switch to the other profile by saying, “Alexa, switch to (profile name).”
- Ask Alexa for notifications on the other profile by saying, “Alexa, do I have any notifications?”
If there are no notifications on either profile, try turning off the yellow light once and for all.
Turn Off The Yellow Light Once and For All
To turn off the yellow light on your Alexa device, follow these steps:
- Launch the Alexa app on your iPhone or Android device
- Tap the three-line icon in the top-left corner to access the main menu
- Tap “Settings” from the list of available options
- Select “Device Settings”
- Choose your Alexa device from the list of connected devices.
- Scroll down to “Communications” and toggle the switch next to it to turn off the feature.
By turning off the communications feature, your Alexa device will no longer display a yellow light to indicate incoming messages or notifications.
However, keep in mind that this means you will no longer receive notifications through your Alexa device.
In addition, note that Alexa has different ring colors, and each means something else. So check before you turn the notifications off.
Yellow Light Is Still Flashing? Factory Reset Your Device
If you’ve tried all the troubleshooting steps and the Alexa yellow ring still won’t go away, it may be time to consider a factory reset.
A factory reset will erase all data and settings from your device, essentially restoring it to its original state when it was first purchased.
To reset your device, locate the reset button on your Alexa device.
Depending on the model, the reset button’s location can vary. For the Echo Dot, the reset button is located at the bottom of the device. For other models, it is either on the back or side.
Press and hold down the reset button for at least 20 seconds until the light on the device turns orange.
After a few seconds, the light will turn blue, indicating that the device is entering setup mode. Now, set the device up with the Alexa app again.
You will have to recreate all the routines and re-add all the smart devices.
