Waggle, let me know how your meeting with the GNRC AD's goes. I am sure you will be quite persuasive. And I didn't call you Robbie, Himmel did.

Amen Donna. You have to under stand something Donna. OscarMeyerWeiner and I have a hate/hate relationship for some reason. The frustration of trying to figure out who I am has driven him totally insane. But I agree with you 100%. Just because little Johnny was the "best" player on the Garner, EW or Clayton team and got nominated for "all conference" does not mean that he was the best player at his position in the conference. Lets just assume there were 10 running backs chosen. I guarantee the other 9 were not the best at that position. Hines was the best. Therefore he would be the first team running back. Now we shall all wait for the response from Oscar, flairric, moorescreek, etc etc etc. LOL Thanks for commenting Donna.

OscarMeyer really....."in the weightroom, on the practice field and in the games."All conference does not mean "most or best effort" All conference should be about talent. BEST PLAYERS - PERIODTrust me! the fans, parents, refs, sports writers, hot vendors, ect know who's the best players in a conference. Your other comment - "Sad, that you dont like the way kids are recognized for their contributions" this is not little league. The varsity letter they recieve at the end of season banquet is the recongnition.

waggle/robbie, like I said, instead of whining and complaining on here, take your thoughts to the GNRC AD's. I am sure they are anxious to hear from you.And good for you, that folks on a message board agree with you.

Seems like a lot more people agree with me than with you. LOL! Of course I never expected you to agree with me. Most people would rather see the selections be made by position. With a first team and second team. Followed by honorable mention. That way there is true recognition to the athlete. I do appreciate your input on the topic though OscarMeyerWeiner. Great hearing from you.

@twetherby, I agree with you post 100%. The GNRC takes the easy way out in the selection process by allowing the head coach to decide who his "best" players are.

@weiner(aka too many to list), it does not matter what I say you will always disagree with me. The point of possibly including sports writers was to add some balance to the voting process. Even though there is not enough writers to probably do such. Not taking anything from the 70 players who made the GNRC all conference honors since they are the best players out of the 400-500 players in the conference. This in itself is a honor. I would like to see it based on position. Offense, Defense, Kicker, Punter, and MVP. Break it down in to 2 teams and honorable mention team. So that you understand oscar meyer weiner, you would get 24 first team selections, 24 second team selections and 11 or 12 honorable mention selections. These are the kids that are the best at their positions. Can you figure that your on your own or does someone need to help you??

Different conferences do it differently. The SWAC has coaches nominate their players and then the other coaches vote on those nominated. Coaches cannot vote on their own players. It is a good system as every coach sees at least 3 games of the opposition a season. They know which players are typically deserving. The only missing element, IMO, is the relevant stats from the season and league play. League play stats should hold more weight as there are very different out of conference opponents. Also, IMO, each team should be required to enter those stats on MaxPreps. Currently, NCHSAA asks them to do that, but doesn't require it.

My understanding is that all conference is not voted on collectively by the coaches and that the media has no say. The coaches collectively vote on player of the year honors. Each team is allotted a certain number of all conference selections based on how they finished in the conference race. The coaching staff for each team individually, and by their own methods, name their allotted all conference players. This approach makes the most sense to me as the coaches have enough on their hands evaluating the player skills on their own team much less the player skills on seven or eight other teams.

Interesting, so you think a sportswriter knows better than a kids coach who sees them in the weightroom, on the practice field and in the games. And the other coaches see them one night a year. Do you really think other coaches are going to watch film of others games and vote on players.Sad, that you dont like the way kids are recognized for their contributions. Maybe when your kid gets their waggle they will have it all straigtened out fo you.

I agree with you lorimags. Coaches should nominate a minimum number of players from their team to the league. The league can then send a ballot out to the conference coaches for them to vote on. You could even balance the coaches out with local sports writers who actually follow the league. Regardless, naming 70 kids to an all conference team is ridiculous. The way it is set up now is more like giving a coaches award at the end of the season banquet.

I think that is what the SWAC does too.......let the Coaches of other teams decide. Plus, it is silly not to have 1st..2nd..honorable mention. There is no doubt that a number of kids on the GNRC list wouldn't start or even play at Garner, East Wake etc

It is my understanding in the Big 8 conference coaches do not vote on their own players, they may bring a list from their team that they feel are worthy but have no vote for their own. I may be wrong but that is how it was presented to me once.

My solution is that the coaches choose and vote on an actual all conference team as opposed to just allowing each individual coach to make selections from his own team and make them all conference, which is the policy now.

Wouldn't the coach be the best judge of who is deserving? Do you not think the coaches talk to each other?Instead of complaining, what is your solution.

@oldtimecoach Now it is even more so on the coaches though, because they get to decide exactly who is on all conference from their team. Before, you could at least tell parents that you put the kids name up for consideration, fought for him, but he just didn't make it.

There are still a few conferences that select 1st team/2nd team lists. While I agree with those conferences, even their processes aren't perfect. There are kids who make 1st team with inferior stats and play to others either on 2nd team or honorable mention. Usually, there are 2 reasons. 1) That player is on a team which had a better season than the player with better stats or more impact. And 2) That player is from a team with few, if any other representatives and the coaches feel the need to include someone from every team. In either case, it does a disservice to the players with better stats or more impact. The all-conference teams that simply list 70 or so players are ridiculous. It is akin to the participation trophies given at the youth level.

Congrats to the GNRC all-conference players......But it looks like almost 50 kids made all conference...wow...either do it right or just stop naming all-conference teams..... I thought it was bad in the past where teams got a set number of slots based on the teams FINISH in the standings.....but this blows that process out of the water......Again this has nothing to do with the young men that busted their tails off all year but geesh...this team is a little excessive...

The coaches or media need to vote on the best players in the conference based on position. Like DMB said it is just full of skill players in most cases. @oldtimecoach, then they all should get a trophy. Last time I checked this was not pop warner or civitan. No one pays to play.

Wish it was that way, because the way it is now your all conference list is every team's QB, RB, and best WR. The skill player to o-lineman ratio is way too high.

Whatever happened to days when we had a first team all conference and a second team all conference? Whatever happened to the honorable mention? Just looked at the GNRC all conference team and we have the Garner team and 5-8 players from all the other teams. Just go back to the days of putting the best 11 on each side of the ball and put them on the first team along with the best kicker and punter. And do the same for the second team.
