Tonight, the names of three contestants who will advance to the reality show's grand finale will be announced

Today, Noah Thompson, HunterGirl, Leah Marlene, Nicolina Bozzo and Fritz Hager will not only perform their original songs, but mentor Carrie Underwood will choose a song from her catalog of hits for each of the contestants.

Make-or-break night

The Top 5 American Idol contestants will be chosen to fill three spots in the May 22 finale.

During the week, it had been anticipated that the five contestants would travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they would be mentored by the Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood .

However, Noah and Fritz may not be able to travel because they both tested positive for Covid-19, a situation that prevents them from singing live on the show.

Tonight Fritz Hager will perform his song "Hearts Align" produced by King Henry, while Noah Thompson will sing his song "One Day Tonight" directed by Jimmy Robbins.

Meanwhile, Leah Marlene will perform her song "Flowers"; HunterGirl will sing "Redbird", a composition she wrote during Hollywood Week; and Nicolina Bozzo will sing "Glitter".

Complex challenge

Carrie Underwood announced in a message on social networks that in addition to mentoring the contestants this week, she will also choose some of her songs for them to perform.

Another point to take into account is that, since last Friday, American Idol fans can download and listen to streamings of original songs that the Top 5 have recorded under the supervision of top producers.

As the weeks progress, the competition gets tighter and choosing the best singers looks more and more tightly contested for the judges.

American Idol airs on ABC at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT and fans of the contestants can vote for them throughout the show until after the final commercial break.
