Not long before Murray was scheduled to take the court against the World No.1 in the third round, he announced that he had withdrawn from the tournament due to a stomach bug.

And now, a number of reports have suggest Murray is set to stick to his plan and withdraw from Roland Garros to prepare for the grass season.

Murray is yet to publicly speak out on his participation at Roland Garros.

While there was some speculation Murray would take part in Rome, which Novak Djokovic just won, it appears the three-time grand slam champ will rest ahead of Wimbledon.

Andy Murray's battle for ranking points

Ranked 78th in the world, the 34-year-old has been making his way up the rankings since having hip surgery in both 2018 and 2019.

He had arrived in Madrid with a 10-8 record in eight tournaments and made it to the Sydney final in January, where he lost to Aslan Karatsev.

Tour officials gave no further details on Murray’s illness.
