Open Document Essay SampleCheck Writing Quality Show More Animal Farm is a novel written by George Orwell that depicts the overthrowing of a farmer by his animals. Mr.Jones, an unhappy drunk, is the ruler of the Manor Farm. He over works his animals, gives them bad living conditions, and does not feed them regularly. The animals don’t necessarily view Mr.Jones as a bad man or feel like they are being treated unfairly since it is all they have ever known. One night, the farm animals gather with Old Major, a pig, as his life is coming to a close. Old Major voices his strong opinions about Mr.Jones, humans, and the unfairness they are receiving. He ultimately told the animals they were born as slaves, worked all day, received little food, lived in poor conditions, and were slaughtered when they could …show more content… Old Major dies within the following days after the meeting. With the words of revolution ringing in their ears, the animals plan for overthrowing Mr.Jones. The pigs quickly take on the leadership roles, the two leaders being Napoleon and Snowball. With another pig Squealer, they take charge and form a philosophy called Animalism. Through this, they begin to make laws and rules for all the animals to follow. They must call one another “Comrade” and come to the pigs for every need or question. Some of the animals are still trusting and loyal towards Mr.Jones, yet the pigs reinforce the idea that they are enslaved and should overthrow. Moses, Mr.Jones’ raven, does not participate in the overthrow due to his loyalty to Mr.Jones. The animals finally overthrow on a fateful night where a drunk Mr.Jones forgot to feed them. The animals break into the store shed, begin to eat, and are soon thereafter whipped by Mr.Jones and his men. The animals fight back, attacking the humans and running them off. Now with Mr.Jones gone, the pigs have full control over the …show more content… The pigs do end up learning how to read and write while the other animals are taught to a certain extent. Snowball also tries to initiate numerous committees while Napoleon takes no interest in them. Over time, apples and milk begin to disappear, only to later be discovered the pigs took it. The other animals have no hostility towards the animals as they twist their words and all around use propaganda to trick the animals into trusting them. Mr.Jones and his allies soon hear about the success of Animal Farm. They come back to take control of the farm again, only to be ambushed by the animals who gain their land back. During the winter, the animals suffer but rely on the pigs to remind them that everything is okay. Conflict arises between Napoleon and Snowball as Snowball contemplates the idea of building a windmill. Snowball thinks it would aid the animals while Napoleon thinks they should focus on their current labor instead of creating new labor. Napoleon gets the other animals to turn on Snowball and exiles him from Animal Farm, making him the sole leader now. Napoleon later convinces the animals that Snowball was a traitor all
