Skyline's African American Humanities class on stage after one of their Black History Month Shows Skyline Blues advances to ICHSA semi-finals after quarterfinal win - Catch them live on March 11 (opens in new window/tab)

Skyline High School’s a cappella group, Skyline Blues, is heading to the semi-finals after taking first place at the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA) Midwest Quarterfinals on February 20. The group will compete at the ICHSA Midwest Semi-Finals on March 13 in Indianapolis.

Before they hit the road, fans can cheer them on and help send them there at a fundraising concert on Tuesday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in the Skyline Auditorium.

Skyline’s African American Humanities Class shared their Black History Month Show with students and the community on Thursday, February 26th. As they recognized the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, the theme was Perseverance and Resistance: A Celebration of Us!

Pioneer High School’s Black History Month Assembly brought students and staff together on Wednesday for an afternoon of performance, history, and reflection.

Hosted by students LeTia and Tisa, the program traced decades of Black American history, with student “reporters” Mia, Hevvon, Valentina, Seven, and Maya providing historical context for each era from the 1920s through today. The assembly’s theme, “The Next One Hundred,” referred to historian/author/educator Carter G. Woodson’s creation of Negro History Week in 1926.

King Elementary hosted its International Night at Huron High School on Saturday, bringing families and students together for a festive celebration of culture and community.

“It was a fabulous event that showcased the rich cultural diversity of our school community,” said Principal Koren Clinkscale.

The evening featured vibrant performances, music, dance, traditional clothing, and delicious foods from around the world. Beautifully decorated displays highlighted the many countries and cultures represented at King, creating an atmosphere filled with energy, learning, and pride.

Slauson students on Wednesday got the opportunity to have a chipotle lime chicken and brown rice bowl and Gatorade Zero as part of the special lunch. They also had the opportunity to meet University of Michigan gymnast Reyna Guggino who is currently working on her Masters in Movement Science and a Physical Activity and Nutrition certificate.
