Description

There is no waistband, so super easy and it is the perfect project to learn how to insert an invisible zipper. You can play around and add pockets, shorten it, lengthen it make it your own. There are so many gorgeous fabrics out there you can choose from, bright florals, corduroy, denim , animal prints even a tartan!

A-line skirts are a design classic and I’m sure I’ll make several – perhaps a bit longer, for that 70s vibe? I love how this shape allows for pattern play and can read very differently, depending on the fabrics used. Hugely versatile with great instructions for less experienced sewists.

Very cute and easy. My only trouble was being in between size groups, so I had to cut smaller than the 18 and 14 wouldn’t have fit. Threw in some pockets too.

This is a lovely, very easy pattern. I’ve used it twice, once for a friend, which I lengthened and I used as a teaching pattern for a 12 year old girl to sew, she did amazingly well . We swapped the invisible zip for an ordinary zip as this was the first garment she’d ever made. If you’re looking for a simple A line skirt this is perfect, easy to follow instructions.

Pretty good for a free pattern! I did notice that the back is smaller than the front and when you add a zipper seam it is noticeably smaller so I added 1 cm to both back pieces. I also wanted it knee length and so adjusted length easily. Easy to follow instructions. Will make a few

Great little skirt to make. I used some left over cotton poplin material from a dress I had made. Very clear instructions especially for inserting the concealed zip. Also loved using bias binding on the edge of the facing.

Hi! This is the first thing I’ve made for myself. I was given a sewing machine for my birthday in March and started with sewing face masks and another essential item that we call pandemic lounge pants (pajama bottoms in the time of COVID)! I have never done any of the following: inserted a zipper, used bias tape, used interfacing, created waist facings, inserted darts. So first of all thank you for the sewing lesson! Second, yes there are a few mistakes/learning opportunities but hopefully not apparent to anyone but me. The skirt actually fits and looks well-constructed. I am relatively tall and lean and opted for size 12 mainly because I don’t like skirts at my waist (I’m a size 6 or 8 usually here in the US). I tend to wear a little lower at my hips but not truly low rise. I did end up having to take it in at the side seams as it was too big below where I wanted it to sit below waist. So I’m probably size 10 or even 8 below the waist of the skirt which needs to be a size 12 to sit closer to my hips. Either way, it was really fun. I did have to consult a few other tutorials as I didn’t fully understand directions. So for those of you who are dead beginners, I recommend supplementing instructions with ProfessorPincushion.com videos on youtube especially for inserting zipper and bias tape.

I’ve never made anything with darts or a waistband before as I only just started sewing. Never made clothes. Only a couple of bags with zips. I took ages to make this because I was trying to work everything out but my skirt turned out awesome. I originally made the size 12 but it was too big so I took it in and ended up with size 8 instead. So I’m making another one today and I want to make it longer as well so I can sit down comfortably as I’m quite tall. I need to learn how to measure myself properly so I make the right size. Thanks for the pattern. I think I will make a dozen of them. I love it. I think I’m addicted to sewing now.
