Alison De Courcy Ireland, 25, who now resides in New Brunswick, was not required to be at the Montreal courthouse where her case was postponed to a date in March — and even that is only scheduled to be a formality hearing.

She has been waiting nearly two years for a decision. She is alleged to have been impaired while she was behind the wheel of Kassian’s Ford F150 when it crashed into a tree in the Côte-Des-Neiges—Notre-Dame-De-Grâce borough on Oct. 4, 2015. Kassian, who had just joined the Canadiens, was inside the truck along with one of De Courcy Ireland’s friends.

Quebec Court Judge Denis Mondor, the first judge to hear her trial, was scheduled to deliver his decision on May 3, 2019, after he finished hearing evidence on Feb. 7, 2019. Months later, he later agreed to delay the decision after being advised that De Courcy Ireland was pregnant.

Then, in May last year, she was informed that Mondor was unable to deliver his decision for health reasons and a second trial was ordered.

Three months ago, in an abbreviated version of the first trial, Quebec Court Judge Christian Tremblay was presented with a series of admissions and transcripts of arguments lawyers made the first time around.

No reason was mentioned in court on Monday when De Courcy Ireland’s case was pushed back for the seventh time since 2019. But according to sources, Tremblay is also suffering from a health problem and is currently unable to deliver a decision.
