Speaking to Canal+ after scoring the late winner in Atlético Madrid’s Champions League opener against Porto, Antoine Griezmann reflected on his upturn in form after struggling in the first half of the calendar year with a goalless spell.

The Frenchman, who finds himself with limited playing time for Diego Simeone’s men as a result of a clause in his contract as part of his move from Barcelona, now has three goals in five games and looks to be returning to his best just in time for the World Cup.

“I’m doing well, I’m in good shape. I’m feeling physically very well in my legs. Pre-season did a lot of good for me, I needed that. I had a big empty spell last season where I wasn’t doing well mentally. Now I’m doing a lot better and I’m giving it my all. [In my head] It’s perfect, I’m doing very well and we saw that on Wednesday when I came on.”
