Large seagoing vessels can now quite literally sail right up to our quay in Ghent. ⚓ Thanks to the new lock, this is now possible, and we are fully seizing that opportunity. To unload these larger ships smoothly and efficiently, we are extending our conveyor belts by no less than 130 meters. The result? We can unload several large seagoing vessels at the same time. Less waiting time on the water, faster throughput on land, and even greater efficiency across the entire operation. 🚢 What may look like a minor adjustment is, behind the scenes, a significant upgrade with real impact. More reach. More capacity. More speed. #port #logistics #infrastructure

Yesterday I joined the breakfast debate at the European Parliament on decarbonisation and competitiveness. What struck me was how direct the exchange was. Less about targets, more about what it actually takes to keep industry in Europe while reducing emissions. For ArcelorMittal Belgium, that discussion is very concrete. Decarbonisation means redesigning steel production, which in turn depends on large-scale hydrogen, CO₂ transport and storage and the right investment conditions. During the debate hosted by Wouter Beke and Christian Ehler, it was encouraging to see policymakers acknowledge that climate ambition and industrial strength cannot be treated separately. Discussions like this matter, they help turn shared ambition into coordinated action across the value chain. 🔄

ℹ️ https://www.h2be.eu/ Vincent Verbeke Cécile PREVIEU, Pierre Chambon, Koen Vlaeminck, Daniel Simmons, Guillaume Gillet, Corinna Grajetzky, Areti Kostaraki Cefic, Eurogas, Heidelberg Materials, Fredericq Peigneux, PMV, VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship © Eric Berghen #withENGIE #TransitionEnergétique #Hydrogène #DécarbonationIndustrielle #H2BE #CCS

Some rooms just buzz differently. ⚡️ MaChT Meets the Industry brought together Ghent University students in Chemical Engineering & Sustainable Materials Engineering and the companies shaping the world they’ll soon step into. We had focused conversations about internships, first jobs, research, sustainability and the future of materials. We showed up ready to meet the next generation of engineers who don’t just want a job, they want impact. And the level of drive in that room? Impressive. 🔥 Tibo De Bolle | Kaïn Rotsaert | Mattis De Schrijver

Steel is all around us. It supports, connects, and moves things, often without us even noticing. From the ground to the sky, steel moves us forward every day: in the bicycle you ride, the car that takes you places, the train that connects cities, and the plane that takes you to the other side of the world.✈️ Steel is also found in bridges, ships, and trucks, where it is relied upon to remain safe, strong, and sturdy during transport. We rarely stop to think about how indispensable steel is to the way we travel and connect with each other. Strong, reliable, and ubiquitous: steel keeps us moving every day.🚲 #steelinaction #transport #ArcelorMittalBelgium

500 business leaders. One clear message. The Antwerp Declaration is about keeping Europe strong by keeping its industry strong, with fair trade rules, a workable Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and the right conditions to decarbonise without deindustrialising. Because a resilient Europe isn’t built on ambition alone, but on steel, jobs and investment made here at home. ⚙️🌍

This week in Antwerp, Europe’s industrial and political leaders came together to deliver a clear message: there is no resilient, nor safe, nor strong Europe without a strong European industry. Our CEO ArcelorMittal Europe, Geert Van Poelvoorde, was among 500 business leaders present at the event, delivering our messages on what is needed for a thriving, sustainable steel industry in Europe.    On Tuesday, we were proud to announce that we are investing EUR1.3bn in ArcelorMittal Dunkirk, for the construction of a new electric arc furnace that represents an important step in our decarbonisation journey in Europe.    We were able to do this for a number of reasons, among which was the European Commission and member states’ understanding of the challenges the European steel industry is facing. They have responded to the European steel industry crisis, with legislation to stem the tide of unfair imports, and to revise the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism so that we can compete more fairly in a global market.     Today, we reinforced the message that some key reforms still need to be made, to secure our future.    This includes extending the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to include more downstream products and finding a solution for exports and resource shuffling (where non-European producers redirect their low-carbon imported steel to Europe, while directing high-emission steel to unregulated markets - without having any positive impact on the climate).     We are not asking for protection from change, we are asking for the conditions to lead the change with our products, made here in Europe, to enable the energy transition and Europe’s low-carbon future.   https://lnkd.in/ew-XzHZR

What if your production line could tell you its secrets? 👀🏭 At ArcelorMittal Belgium, we're giving our lines eyes. With Axis Communications AI-powered cameras, every critical step on the line is watched in real-time: welds, crane hooks, production flow. Not to replace our operators, but to give them superhuman focus. Instead of juggling 20 screens, they get an alert only when something needs their attention. That means fewer stoppages, safer operations, and more time for the decisions that only humans can make. It’s simple: machines monitor, humans judge. Together, it’s smarter, faster, safer steel.
