Member Hello, I installed last week DD-WRT, but my Tomato miss me so so much, i would like to see if i can get similar options (possibilities) with OpenWRT, and I tried to revert to stock firmware (found here :https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85237&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30). But no way, i can't remove DDWRT, each time i flash the router from the webif + reset, it reboot on the same version of DDWRT... Someone told me to do the 30 30 30 method, it remind me something, but i have read somewhere it could brick the router, i would avoid too much risk... I didn't tried tftp, it seem DDWRT don't like too much peoples trying to remove their firmware and macusers... So if someone could help me to switch to openwrt at least to see if i prefer it, it would be very kind. Thank you Ced eibgrad

Member Try using tftp. Sometimes it's necessary. And reset the router to factory defaults first. Also, make triple sure you're using the correct firmware. An attempt to use the wrong firmware will either a) get rejected outright as a a mismatch, b) end up being too big and rejected, or c) brick the router. F

Member Hello, Thank you for your answer, I followed DDWRT guide to revert to stock, but i haven't got any luck, I downloaded an old stock firmware as requested, renamed it, enabled tftp, the transfert started, but the router always reboot on DDWRT which was installed.. It is not even possible to switch to Openwrt directly (it was my intention)... I also tried several firmwares from Eu and US server (my router is a EU version), same problem, tried different version of tftp client, same problem.. I have read somewhere, the firmware must be modified (with mtd utils) to be bootable after the router download it from tftp. This will be my next move, but tbh i don't understand why it is so hard to remove DDWRT... eibgrad

Member Just a guess, but I know there are some routers that support multiple OS partitions, presumably for recovery purposes. IOW, if you mess up a firmware update, and the system can't boot, it falls back to the recovery partition. And all that works correctly w/ the oem/stock firmware. But it may be that dd-wrt, for whatever reasons, is not fully compatible w/ that type of router. And that where the use of the mtd utils comes into play; you may have use them to fixup the partitions. F

Member hum, after i uploaded the firmware to /tmp on the router, i used the mtd command to set it on fullflash :
root@DD-WRT:/tmp# mtd -r write ArcherC7v5_tp_recovery.bin fullflash Click to expand...
It crashed the router, i wasn't expecting this of course, i followed a video for an Archer C7 v2 who got the same problem (the person wasn't able to revert on stock firmware), and in its video the guy used mtd linux (this doesn't worked for me and returned an error) :
root@DD-WRT:/tmp# mtd -r write ArcherC7v5_tp_recovery.bin linux Click to expand...
and now the router is stuck in a sort of lethargic state, it don't accept command, don't recognize reset button, and it is no more possible to boot it in recovery mode (for tftp)... I dont know... All this because i installed DDWRT, and wanted to try something else... Funny thing is the same day (yesterday) i upgraded to latest DDWRT version without problem, directly from the webinterface -> upgrade. SO once you are on DDWRT, we won't let you go. Your router is ours; and ours only, you will never go to OpenWRT, or to another firmware. Your router is ours. you are JAILED... ;) RichtigFalsch
