Arduino IoT Cloud Gets Over-the-Air Update Support For MKR WiFi ...

The Arduino IoT Cloud platform has entered 2021 with a new trick up its sleeve: the ability to program selected development boards over-the-air via the Arduino Create web development environment.
"Over-the-air (or OTA) programming is a very useful feature in all those cases where your devices are located in places that are not easily accessible," the Arduino team explains of the newly-launched feature. "For example, you built a weather station using the Oplá IoT Kit, installed it on your rooftop, and started monitoring the weather from an IoT Cloud dashboard. That’s great until you find a bug or want to modify something and have to climb on your roof with a laptop to do so. Here’s where OTA becomes handy."
Initial OTA support is available for the Arduino MKR WiFi 1010 and Nano 33 IoT boards. (📷: Arduino.cc)Available now to all Arduino IoT Cloud accounts, OTA updating is currently compatible with the Arduino MKR WiFi 1010 and the Arduino Nano 33 IoT development boards. The target board must be connected via USB initially to update the firmware with OTA support, after which it becomes available as a remote OTA target.
"Devices that can be updated via OTA will appear in the dropdown list of all updatable devices in the online editors of Create," the Arduino team explains. "the full Web Editor and the new Sketch Editor have been introduced in the Thing configuration page to make minor changes to the code."
More information on using the OTA update functionality can be found on the Arduino website; the company has not yet confirmed plans to bring OTA compatibility to additional development board models.
