What is the treatment?
The reduction of excess fat cells from the arms to reduce the body size and volume is known as arm liposuction. People go through liposuction after they are tired of the excess mass of the body making them look bulky and causing inconvenience in their mundane lives. When they are unable to lose the excess mass through exercise, they choose this method for a quick solution. Arm liposuction is similar to the other liposuction processes. Liposuction these days is easily being used as an adjunct to formal brachioplasty. For instance, a procedure of aggressive liposuction procedure directly under the skin area has become increasingly popular. This procedure is carried out for preserving the lymphatics and thins out the skin flap that is to be removed. However, precautions must be taken in liposuctioning the in blachioplasty areas of flap inset and elevation.
The benefits of this surgery are innumerable. It really gets a person the desired arms they have been looking for all this while. Arm liposuction basically provides you a contoured and toned body with tight skin. Along with that, it gives you a surety that there will be no damage caused to the blood vessels and nerves.
How is the treatment done?
Firstly, the patient who is about to undergo the arm liposuction surgery is told to cease the usage of tobacco products, alcohol, vitamin E, aspirin and decrease the intake of sodium at least a week before surgery. Before the operation, the patient will be marked with the arm abducted at 90° and the elbow flexed at 90°. The incision sites must be marked posteriorly, proximal to the posterior axillary fold and the radial elbow. In case the anterior arm is to be treated, the anterior axilla has to be marked for incision. If circumferential liposuction is required, depending on the evaluation results of a patient, there must be an addition of access sites to allow for cross-tunneling. Suggested sites include lateral, medial, and posterior areas of the arms.
After all the evaluation and selection of the surgical procedure are complete, prepare the patient for the surgery. The procedure includes the melt away of excess fat through adrenalin and local anesthetic infusion in the body. The purpose of the anesthesia is to constrict blood vessels in the arms and provide numbness to minimize discomfort as much as it can for the patient’s successful surgery. The process goes on as a small incision is created under the skin and then a vaccum suction tube is placed at the fat area to extract the extra mass from there. The suction tube creates the vaccum to pull out the fat cells through the tube.
Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)
A person who is not overweight but has extra body mass which looks baggy is eligible for the treatment. Also, one who is over the age of 18 and in excellent health is included.
Who is not eligible for the treatment?
Obese or overweight people are not eligible for the treatment. The sole reason being that the amount of body mass removed during liposuction is limited. Therefore, a large amount of fat liposuction will usually be ineffective. Pregnant women, people allergic to lidocaine and those with underlying health problems are also precluded from receiving the treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Fortunately, there are minimal or no complexities after the conduction of liposuction surgery. The few side effects of this procedure include soreness or pain, bruising, swelling, minor scarring, irritation around the site of incision, and rippling or baggy skin post-surgery.
What are the post-treatment guidelines?
Immediate application of an optimum compressive garment after surgery will minimize the post-operative oedema. Manual lymphatic drainage during early post-operative period is necessary. Generally after liposuction patients experience a lot of swelling, which leads to weight fluctuation in the beginning. To have the best results, it is suitable that you follow a well-balanced diet chart with lot of nutrients, including fruits, proteins, vegetables, and carbohydrates. A diet enriched with omega-3 fatty acid supplement will help your condition. Avoid overeating at all costs. A diet with low salt and drinking plenty of fluids will help the edema go away.
How long does it take to recover?
It takes 2 to 5 weeks for full recovery post surgery.
What is the price of the treatment in India?
The cost of arm liposuction ranges from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000.
Are the results of the treatment permanent?
No the results of the treatment are not permanent as liposuction is related to losing the weight of the body permanently but giving your body a sleeker look. It is also a possibility that a person may gain more weight on the area of liposuction after the surgery if the body is not maintained properly.
What are the alternatives to the treatment?
Zerona, trusculpt and coolsculpting techniques are the best alternatives to liposuction if a person wants small body masses removed from his body.
