The Army Education Corps came into being on June 1, 1947 with 40 regular officers, 40 short service commissioned officers, 120 JCOs and 400 other ranks. At present, it has an active strength of about 500 officers, 6000 JCOs and NCOs as well as 100 odd civilians scattered across the country. With its training centre at Pachmarhi, the Corps has been playing the key-role in enhancing the educational standard of troops.
The Corps played a key role in enhancing the educational and professional standard of troops to a great extent during the post-independence era. The Corps personnel are widely scattered and were found playing their part in all garrisons, headquarters, training centres, units, establishments, sainik schools, military schools, colleges and selection centres.
The human resources development centres run by AEC personnel function as nodal centres to impart SSC-level education, training in foreign and regional languages and communication skills, Army Cadet College cadre classes, certificate education, map reading and music training.
