Wie kann man Berlins Künstler*innen in der Stadt halten?

Derzeit suchen von mindestens 8.000 Bildenden Künstler*innen in der Stadt etwa die Hälfte bezahlbare Ateliers. Tendenz steigend, da pro Jahr rund 350 bezahlbare Ateliers verloren gehen. Diesem Bedarf stehen „nur“ 936 geförderte Ateliers und Atelierwohnungen gegenüber. Die Situation ist dramatisch, die Zeit drängt! Es drohen Tendenzen wie in London oder New York, wo Künstler*innen weitgehend in Randgebiete verdrängt werden.

Der Atelierbeauftragte für Berlin und raumlaborberlin haben zusammen mit der landeseigenen Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Gewobag, dem privaten Entwickler Artprojekt und TTI in einem kooperativen Prozess mit Künstler*innen, Nachhaltigkeitsbanken, Genossenschaften, Senatsverwaltungen, Abgeordneten, Wissenschaftler*innen und Planer*innen 2018 in 2 Workshops am Hafenplatz in Kreuzberg für Art City Lab 2 innovative Konzepte und konkrete Umsetzungsvorschläge überprüft, um zu klären, wie bezahlbarer Raum für Kunstproduktion und Wohnen in der Stadt entwickelt werden kann – sowohl im Neubau wie im Bestand. Die daraus entstandene Publikation fasst die Ergebnisse zusammen und soll den weiteren Diskurs anregen.

Was ist Art City Lab 2? – Ein Netzwerk/Plattform – Ein Methoden-/Werkzeugkasten, – Ein Rahmen für Wissensproduktion – Anlass und Impuls – ArtCityLab 2 soll in Pilotumsetzungen konkret werden!

Currently around half of Berlins‘ 8,000 visual artists are looking for affordable studio space. With numbers rising, as every year around 350 further afoorddable studios are lost. Against this need there are „only“ 936 subsidized studios and studio-apartments. The situation is dramatic, the time for action is now!

Art City Lab 2 tries to find alternative, lateral solutions regarding the contemporary housing shortage. How can Berlin’s artists be kept in the city? How does a housing association work with an initiative or a private developer? How do you close the gap between financing needs and funding programs?

How can places for art production have a positive effect on the neighbourhood? The studio commissioner for Berlin and raumlaborberlin developed and discussed these questions together with the state-owned housing association Gewobag, the private developer Artprojekt and TTI in a cooperative process with artists*, sustainability banks, cooperatives, senate administrations, members of parliament, scientists and planners. Art City Lab 2 looks for answers and gives suggestions
