Set in the fictional land of Arthdal during ancient times.
Eunseom (Song Joong-Ki) was born with a fate to bring disaster to Arthdal. Due to his mother's struggles to save him, he goes through hardships and grows up. He appears again in Arthdal.
Tagon (Jang Dong-Gun) is a war hero of Arthdal. He has paved the way for Arthdal to become a prosperous city nation and he is the most powerful person in Arthdal. He dreams of becoming the first king of Arthdal.
Tanya (Kim Ji-Won) was born with the same fate as Eunseom. She is the successor of the Wahan Tribe. Going through hardships, she realized her mission. She lives under the highest honor and her ambition is to become a politician.

Sep 26 2024 2:24 pm Im currently studying the Zoroastrian religion in my religion class and so much of it reminded me of Arthdal Chronicles. God of good and god of evil, the black horse, truth and lie. I dont mean to bring religion into this but so much of this drama is based on every different religion's gods, faith and belief.
Jul 04 2024 5:20 am Loved all the episodes both seasons. Kudos to the actors, director, and producer. I can't imagine how hard it was to do this series. From the viewer's end it looks easy. There were no boring scenes. Really great.
May 11 2024 12:36 pm I try to watch this Season 1 drama but failed, too many characters, too many tribes, too complicated. But, when they change the main characters in Season 2 to Lee Joon Gi, I try to watch it again as I'm his fan & finally I manage to finish it. Then, I try to watch Season 1, this time I hope I can finish watching.
Mar 18 2024 10:24 am Just finished watching season 1 and 2 in 2 weeks. Great K drama. I like the different characters and the twist of events. The cast of both seasons are good too. Although I struggled a little on the change of cast on some roles initially when I started watching season 2, it didn't stop me from watching to the end as I really like the plot of the drama. I will recommend this series to anyone who are bored with the usual k drama they have been watching. Looking forward to season 3.

I cancelled the 2nd season after the 3rd-4th episode because of Shin Se-Kyung you ruined ......!!!!! you play the part of Tanya so badly !!!! My heart bleeds I miss Song Yoong Ki and Kim Ji Won.....!!!! They were the BEST ..!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nov 30 2023 6:56 pm When I first heard that Song Joong-ki was leaving it broke my heart because I am a huge fan of everything he is in. Later I heard that his replacement was going to be Lee Joon-gi I was thrilled. He is a Korean actor that I have just recently discovered. Song Joong-ki did a safe handover to Lee Joon-gi. I am probably one of the biggest GoT fans in the world. This is equal in acting storylines. Wish it had a larger budget for sets, etc. But could not stop watching it. I will watch it again. I don’t think there has been enough word of mouth for this series. I will recommend it to my family and friends. Crossing my fingers for season 3. ??
Nov 20 2023 3:32 pm When I heard some of the cast wouldn’t be coming back for season 2 and that a few people were to be recasted, I was skeptical about season 2. However, I fell in love with season 1 and kept rewatching the series. The set, effects, acting, and story itself is wonderful. The blend of fantasy and historical elements created an unique world that (in my opinion) is comparable to GoT. I actually enjoy the world and atmosphere created by this show, much more than GoT.
Each scene feels purposeful and original. Due to this, I gave season 2 a chance and watched it too. I am so glad I did. The recasting did not hinder the show whatsoever. The second season was unique and just as exciting as the first season. New elements contributed to the storyline and the character development along the way, really showed. The ending of season 2 was well done and created room for a season 3.
It is to my belief that the season 3 is necessary and would be just what the show needs to tie everything together. I think season 3 would be a good finale season to tie everything together with the sword, mirror, and bell; giving a story and ending to the conflict between the Sarams and Neanthals. That being said, this show has a lot more potential and a lot more that it could do. I can see a spin-off series also happening with the Momo tribe as the focus. I believe that would do rather well too.
All in all, I would be very disappointed to see the show not renewed as it definitely deserves another season. Most K-dramas that I watch have around 30 episodes a season or are renewed for another season or two. Given the quality of this show and originality compared to many other K-dramas, it would be a shame to have to cancel it or not renew it, when it clearly deserves to be continued.
Oct 23 2023 4:19 am Just finish season 2. Thats really good story. Especially the story of Tagon and Theala. There are many differences in the souls of the characters Tanya and Eusome, but they are helped by an interesting storyline. Of course looking forward to season 2.
Oct 16 2023 6:15 am One of the best fantasy so far. Just a two cents. The character Tanya is totally different from season 1 to season2. Season 1 is more on fierce while season 2 is more on soft. There's lack in her eyes when she act.

I barely say bad things about any drama but this is such a boring drama I didn't even finish it I stopped at episode 14 and that took a lot to even get there already. Too many tribes - too many names - too many unnecessary stories - too many unnecessary tribe members. I was waiting for Eunseom's or Tanya's special/supernatural power to come through during emergency situations or at least to help their people with their supernatural power but nope, very little to none - besides that it's not even special or stunned it's just so so. Again, very boring and dragging stories. Between Eunseom and Tagon - feels like Tagon's part took over 90% of the whole drama already everything is about Tagon Tagon Tagon. Very slow pace to the point where I just can't take it anymore and moved on to another drama.

Sep 28 2023 10:44 pm Wow solid Korean drama on Disney plus with many plot twists and turns. It teaches abt survival in a cruel world although it is frictional but it depicts real life. Discrimination is also rampant here, so does tribal bonds. Being a twin myself, the twin plot in season 2 excites me due their swopping of roles although you need to see season 1 to understand the background context on how tagon, taelha, Tanya, euseom & Saya come to power. True that the main actors are replaced in season 2 but all are amazing. It is really very addictive and much better than moving (supernatural heroes) hands down!

I really like SJK how he portrait his character in any roles... super satisfying to watch him how he act.. The Descendants of the Sun,Vincenzo, A werewolf boy,The innocent man (Nice Guy) however Its them decision... For sure he have a busy schedule... Just saying and its my opinion ? Peace ✌️

Sep 05 2022 3:13 pm I am almost at the end of the Arthdal Chronicles Season1. The script is great and I love all the characters too. I know some are disheartened by the news of different actors playing the main leads in Season 2. But, I think it will be fine. After all, Kim Jiwon and Song Joonki declined the offer of Season 2 and it takes courage to step into these characters that were already played almost to perfection.
After all, there will be a time jump and Lee Joongi already looks a lot like Saya and Eunsome. My only worry is the lead actress they casted. But, here's hoping that she will do justice to Tanya too!

Aug 02 2022 2:31 am Kim Ji Won and Song Joong Ki is already perfect for their roles. Imagine Robert Downey Jr. Being replaced as Iron Man. It sucks. He's the perfect Iron Man. No one can replace him. They even planned to make Pirates of the Caribbean without our beloved captain Jack and no one can imagine playing him other than Johnny Depp. Trust me, no one would want to watch that movie without him. And it's the same for these two. It'll suck. Changing leads will be weird. I have great respects the other two but I just don't see it. And it'll suck more for the original and new leads to get compared.
Aug 02 2022 2:23 am Idk where I can complain but I really want to and hope that producers will hear all of us. I'm a huge fan of Kim Ji Won, like for real. I like Song Joong Ki too. I also like the actors who will be replacing them but that's not about whether we like them or not in general. I just don't like anyone replacing the main cast. I grew to love the series already but I watched it mainly because I found out Kim Ji won would be leading it. There are people who watch series depending on ratings and storylines.. But there are also who watch specific series because their beloved actors are in it. I'm both. But this one is a bit too great for a lot of us, I believe, to accept getting actors replaced. Idk if we have to wait longer but I don't to see Arthdal 2 with different leads. I already waited for so long, I don't mind waiting for my fav leads to accept the roles. We are waiting for the perfect continuation of the series and it won't be without the original leads.

I'm paying attention to new leads bcs they're good actors in the industry, so they don't deserve to receive disparaging & hateful comments just bcs of the production team ask them to fulfill the planning of this project so that it doesn't fail to airing
I really respect the ability & reputation of lee joon gi and Shin Sekyung who always gets the trust of the crews they has worked with

Dec 10 2021 9:46 am This drama was so interesting in itself. From the characters to the stories to the movie sets. It's so intriguing and I really love the relationships between all of the character. The drama is kind of bloody since there is a lot of killing >.< Ji Won's acting in this drama is superb as well as Joong Ki. I cannot tell you how many times I cried my eyes out. That twist with the two Joong Ki was mind blowing. Also, the makeup is so well done in this drama - especially on the Neanthal people!
I am waiting for season two! I cannot wait to see what this drama unfolds to the viewers.

Aug 13 2021 10:17 am I've just finished watching all episodes of Arthdal Chronicles!! Two thumbs up! I really appreciate how all casts and production team made it happen! It was a great Kdrama for me. As a person who rarely watch Kdrama, this one is satisfying. I initially not that interested, but after watching Vincenzo, this drama keep showing up to my Netflix home, so I watched it just for killing time, and turns out I'm stick to the glue! I hope there will be season 2 soon! I think all fans are agree, we can't wait for any longer hehe!

Jul 26 2021 1:53 pm This is a masterpiece. I think part of the problem it had with live audience was it wasn't clear that this would be a 3 season drama. Some people were confused and thought it was 3 part drama in a single season only so they were expecting the ending to be an actual ending. The pacing also felt off because it had a pause in broadcast. However I was lucky that I waited until the entire thing was broadcasted and binge watched it. The pacing was actually just right and I could enjoy the incredible writing, acting, world building and amazing characters. It's a testament to this show quality that they actually made the daekan force characters fun to watch and even likeable at some points. All the main characters are amazing and well fleshed out and holds for so much potential developments which we were supposed to be getting in season 2.
This show is top of my kdrama list now. Supremely underrated. Give it 2 episodes and you will sure to enjoy this ride. I am still fervently hoping for the second season.

This is such a huge project of korean drama industry. They had spend a grand budjet on this series but the money is not a waste! This is a succeful drama of all time though the ratings are not to that much as they were aspected. But this drama is prefferd by many korean dramafans all over the world.The cast is amazing . They have done their roles well. Jang dong gun(Tagon), Song joong ki(Saya,Eounseom), Kim ok bin(Taelha) specially have well played their character portrayals.This is my first time seeingJang dong gun in a drama. I think he has well played his role as Tagon.He has a good personality .Song joong ki as always has well proved his versatile acting doing two roles simultaneously at one screen as both kind Eonseom and angry Saya. Kim ji won and kim ok bin also act well here. Apart from the main cast other actors also have done justice to their characters . This story is well fabricated and specific.This is different and may be not your usual kdrama but I think this is something we must try watching! This is considered as the first korean ancient fantasy drama. The only thing I dislike about this drama is blood sheddings and killings of innocents brutally . Other than that this is not just a drama but a masterpiece . This is one of the best korean dramas of all time. Just watch and see! No regrests!

I binge watched this show in 4 nights and it was one of the best things I've ever done! I was so obsessed with the story and the plot and everything was so just well done - the settings, special effects, acting, everything just *chef's kiss*. I would give up half of my life for a season two please oh please oh please. I need to know what happens.
May 20 2021 5:19 am Really great drama with great cast and storyline. However, I wish the scenes were more evenly distributed for the leads because at times it felt like there was too much scenes for Tagon and not Eunseom(which I was more interested in). Additionally, it is a very slow paced drama that can sometimes be tough to watch. There was also no resolution in the end, but seeing how it got renewed for a second season it makes sense now why they left the show like that with the viewers desperate to see how things will turn out.
Other than that, I still really enjoyed this kdrama and recommend it. It's unique story hooks you in and shows a different type of kdrama which you probably haven't seen before. Hopefully, season 2 comes out soon, I'll be highly anticipating it.

And you can all stop hoping for Season 2, there will be none and THAT is why the ending is total rubbish. The last episode felt too incomplete for anyone to be satisfied with the ending of such a drama.

And in episode 11 there was a flashback between Tagon and taehal, that they both know what they're position as a son (unaccepted) and daughter (spy). Taehal stated that she is a spy sent by her father to Tagon. ? They forgot that error.

Dec 18 2020 1:31 pm I've just finished watching it and there were many episodes that gave me chills. I loved it. The script, the lines were so good and depict to some extent how people deal with greediness, power, differrent races, love and religion. As many prehistoric shows may have similarities concerning the dress code and stuff like that but the story is unique and excellent. Song joongki can play anything from animal like to a really badass without exaggeration. Great chemistry with Ji Won. Tagon and Tealha were also excellent with very good chemistry! I think in general its a great show delivering many messages. A second season would be awesome.

It is one of those movies where you cannot hate any characters because you can understand their decisions. I am really in love with this series. Sep 01 2020 12:31 pm Similar to GoT with the whole premise of deception, and war. This is more "barbarian" instead of medieval. Its less gory than GoT and no sex.
I like how it depicits the story similar to early human history. Its facinating how you can tell the writers wanted to show the evolution of human society. Gave me Far Cry Primal vibes.
Acting is great, characters are well written with good development. Jiwon is gorgeous. Only bad think I would say there is too much inner monologues. Which I started to notice as I was nearing the end.
Can't wait till season 2. Too bad some actor/actresses fucked up recently so I don't know if they will come back. I know Karata was sooo pretty and nice for the role as Karika but I think they can easily replace her with a similar Korean woman or even a Japanese actress (still mad she screwed herself over with the scandal). Also I need more Nichkhun and Elena screentime.

I love the fantasy elements, the storyline is really interesting and the show does a good job of developing the characters. Thankfully season 2 productions have been halted indefinitely, I want ji won and jong ki to be paired together again in another drama where they'll have more screen time. This was a good drama but watching too many tagon and taelha scenes was torture for me. Another character I liked was Yangcha

However if you are looking for an ending its not here, I'm sure its because Netflix had their hands in it. I'm with everyone else waiting for a season two maybe we can put an ending to this story. Initially the fact that the Korean Dramas had an ending to the story is what attracted me, too many times a show on american TV was cancelled and just stopped without tying up the ending.

I love love love the story and it's really a great drama. I was a little bit sad about how it ended like that... but I'm sure there will be season 2!! i was really amazed by one's acting as the young tagon– i didn't even know he can act! plus the appearance of jisoo like omg??? my blink heart??? Apr 25 2020 2:25 pm I heard a lot of koreans hate this, well it ended abruptly, was this show cut by producers for low ratings? I think production cost and talent fees for actors were a problem to keep this drama running.
Anyway, it took a lot of time to travel to face the giant of a warrior man but it was suddenly cut. This series is a cliffhanger to the nth level. Editing/Cast/Music score was great. Slow paced in some areas but i thought this was a promising. I think this would ne airing during the songsong divorce? This had potential though, to be successful overseas. its a shame.

Mar 24 2020 10:26 am I have no idea what to do with myself. I just finished and I am so enticed in this drama. I was captured from episode one. I couldnt even do any homework to how it was so interesting. I really hope season two is coming out soon. I didn't know a a show like this could be so impressive. My heart dropped when I finish episode 18. I was really hoping that even in the last 10 minutes they would resolve everything. But everything was so amazing. Even the characters were so complexed that they made me confused over despising them or sympathysing with them. This show is on a completely different level . I have wayyy too many thoughts on this show. I just really really wanna see the rest. So please I beg you guys. Good luck

Since this series is put in the setting of tribes and their surroundings, I see even more of a visual relationship between Native Americans and Koreans. I'm often drawn to pictures of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce as an example. I think I'm gong to like this drama.

Nov 04 2019 8:32 pm I truly don't understand the low ratings for this drama. The entire story-line is excellent, and the acting was superb (especially Song Joong-Ki in his Eunseom/Saya dual role). It had me at the edge of my seat, from the 1st episode to the (open) ending. I could hardly tear myself loose, and binge-watched it in 2 days. I also wholeheartedly agree with everyone saying we need additional seasons.
Personally, I want to see a whole lot more interaction between Tanya and Yangcha (got this thing for 'mysterious masked men' LOL).

Anyone can interpret the drama to his/her own personal life. We were all born into this world in a diverse settings and evolve based on diverse experiences. The production staff was bold and brave to accomplish such project. It will open doors for many more projects in the future for the Korean film industry. Of course, the drama could not have reached its success without Jang Dong-Gun and Song Joong-Ki.

Usually leaving us with one or two possibilities. With that in mind, I thought I was prepared. Nope. Not for this. It’s as if they lost the scrips for the last one or more episodes/seasons, and said, oh well no one will notice. I hope there is more, and they just have not announced it yet. LoL Back to reality. So do I think you should watch it? Yes. It was a nice change from the dramas that are usually produced. I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more along this genre. I mean love them though I may, they have more than repeated every other type. Rom/Com, Historical, Suspense... There’s only so many ways to twist a storyline. So why not this style? Great drama, not so great finish. Watch it if you’re thinking about it. I think it’s still worth it.

Keeps you attaches through till the ending. Loved the soundtrack too! Ailee is magical with delivering the tension and emotions <3 Song Joon Ki was soo impressive in both roles, so convincing. And Jang Dong Gun just nailed it! But the ending ... what`s wrong with the attitude of the creators to the audience!? We, the K-drama lovers, deserve a better ending, not just some shit, masked by animation! People, pull yourself together and bring a propper finish, PLS!!!

It is obvious the similarities in this show and game of thrones, the excitement, the suspense, the strong plot, the imagination and so and so... gives the spectator the vibes of game of thrones, however, the story still soooooo different !!! In an amazing way.

Come on producers... American series and European ones have that type of ending because there IS ALWAYS season 2 the upcoming yearean dramas have one season.

We also had to wait for Part 3 (13-18 episodes) to air... The last episode leaves you in the middle of the whole story. There really should have been 32 episodes.

Momo Tribe and Ago Tribe is cool but not enought. director dont put any montage about other minor tribe that introduce at arthdal. i wish eunsom army is getting stronger with new type of weapon, and able defense themself. none want to see lose and unnecessary casualty. Looking forward for new tribe joint the battle at season 2, Concept art with short script footage at the end is season 2 confirm. anyway, Ta-gon flashback change prespective for entire drama. its like achivement after finish the drama, might want to watch it again.

Sep 27 2019 3:02 pm Just for anyone thinking the ending is disappointing - the drama is written with a 2-3 seasons mindset so this ending is just your typical "season 1 finale" not an actual ending. Kingdom did the same - it's not "end up cliff-hanging" it's just not ended. Now if this doesn't get renewed, that's a different story.
This drama is one of the best Korean dramas I have seen given its characters building and I have watched for more than 13 years of k-dramas.

One of the things that I admire about korean series is how great they are made, this one was amazing, why not t work on thr ending, to many things hanging, to many unanswered questions, it is ridiculous to leave the viewers waiting for something that might nor even come. With the way the ending unfloded, there was too many useless and unecessary scenes which of course did not help the drama...

And also since Saya knows that Eunseom is alive he’s also gonna meet him, so season 3 just paved the way for them to reunite in season 4. And for those of you who wonder no this is not the end of the drama, it’s the season finale (AKA) end of Season 3. So if you guys want your question answered and Tanya and Eunseom reunion then the drama needs better ratings, if the ratings goes up then season 4 will come out sooner and we will get to see their reunion. Keep in mind the show cost over 50 billion yon in production. I have to admit season 3 wasn’t the best, but with the way season 3 ended I feel that season 4 is gonna be way better. Eunseom, Tanya gonna meet they gonna fight against Tagon. Saya will join hands with Eunseom when he finds out Thealla is pregnant and he won’t be Tagon heir no more, give the drama another chance I think season 4 is gonna make for the disappointment some people may have. It felt like poor Eunseom became a side character, always getting kidnapped and tortured. There were way so many scenes with Asa Ron, Tagon, Taealha, and other side characters like Ipsaeng. I thought Eunseom was the second coming of Aramun Haesulla, but no, he's Inaishingi!!?!?! But he was the only able to ride Kanmoreu, so he has to be Aramun Haesulla. Or maybe he's both. Tagon is definitely a fake. And the fact that Eunseom and Tanya still haven't reunited is so pathetic; they were together only once in episode one. I really can't believe how ridiculous this drama has gotten. It was a dumb move to have a long wait period between part 2 and 3. The rating decline because they couldn't compete with the masterpiece that is Hotel Del Luna. Anyway, there better be more episodes that effectively answer the unanswered questions and tie up loose ends. Where the hell is Kanomreu?!?!!?

Then characters kept popping up with their unusual names. The writer basically kept infusing things and the drama eventually became draggy. Again, I can't believe the writer made Eunseom wander for so long with unnecessary capturing and saving, therefore not going back to Arthdal or meeting Tanya till the end. So many unnecessary things in the bid to impress. I'm appalled.

Would there be any proceeding continuation of the sequence? If so, I hope they will release 18 episodes straight in each season instead of breaking them to 3 parts.

I think Eunsom is the inaishingi and tagon is aramun haesula. Reason? After the twin was born, aramun asks the life of the twin from Eunsom mother (can't remember her name), and if we can remember also, there is this legend in ago tribe that aramun and inaishingi had different point of views that they become enemies. Though I don't really know who is the reincarnation of saya, as saya is a very cunning and manipulative person like aramun. There are still a lot of questions but overall, Arthdal Chronicles is one of the best historical drama in Korea.

Back then, I seriously thought Arthdal wasn't anything like Game of Thrones but now with the last episode, I can see how they crammed everything into one episode just like what happened on the last season of GOT. So yeah, SPOILER AHEAD they will just leave everything at that as they already said goodbye and no more plans for season 4. Tagon will try to conquer Eunseom's newly reunited Ago Tribe while Tanya just kept on crying over Eunseom until the last few episodes where she finally knew what she needs to do (but like what I said, unsatisfying same as her character arc.) They should have just sticked to details and cut the unnecessary scenes like the repetitive scenes with Ipsaeng betraying Eunseom. Also, what the hell happened to the last two nweantal? Chaeun and Nunbyul too? I know they are trying to take revenge but what the f, they really just left it for us to imagine.
There's something, I noticed with the storyline. Everything was just so convenient like how Kariko was there when Eunseom visited just so he can save them and in return save him from the waterfall. Like it's just poorly written for convenient or maybe yeah, because they were gonna cram everything so the writer just didn't give an f anymore about how the story should flow.
But aside from that, the cast was amazing. Truly. No one seemed lacking for the role they got. In fact, it exceeded my expectations especially for Song Joong Ki to nail that totally polar opposite characters. Kudos to Kim Ji Won too. She really improved alot and become even more versatile with her roles. I thought she was just gonna stick with the btchy roles with how she chose similar characters in her past dramas, To The Beautiful You and The Heir. And of course, to the one and only Jang Dong-gun. He is, as always excellent in his roles. It's not just his manly appearance or his charisma that baffles me but also the way he carries each character and make it distinct and also can be just as complex or simple if needed be.
The ending might have satisfied me way beyond words that I might have forgotten to write down but this a good drama. Not unique. Yes, I see that now that this is mildly inspired from GOT, don't want to say ripped off because they brought new ideas into the inspired blood thirsty drama like Neanthals or should I say Nweantal and even the Gods and Goddesses which are not often depicted in Kdramas or movies.

Euhm. I just finished to watch the last episode. I mean... the ending is kind of ok. Well, I'm a bit disappointed because I expected to have a thrilling ending with a lot of action scenes. Well, the end fit with character expectation but not really for Tanya, Saya and Mubaek. For me it's a sad ending for Tanya, Saya and Mubaek and happy ending for Euseom, Tagon and Taelha... I was expecting, at least, to Saya and Euseom to meet each other but the writers decide otherwise...I'm hoping to have a second season... :'( :'(

Sep 22 2019 9:29 am I mean, honestly, I love how this drama started until episode 12. I patiently waited for its last quarter. I just watched episode 18 and it felt like the writer was hoping for a second season as it was way too vague, the last episode is the climax. This might be the highest budgeted drama for this year yet the viewership didn't reciprocate. The writer is the writer of the infamous Dae Jang Geum, avg 46.3% ratings, and Queen Seondok, avg 35.8% ratings. I would compare Arthdal to Jumong due to its slow moving plot but it just way too short. I'm disappointed.

How are they going to wrap it all up in one episode when the story is just about to reach its climax? So far the series has a lot of holes and the story is just heating up. Where's the horse? What will happen to the neanthals? What is the prophecy supposed to mean? I might take this comment back later or I might not, but from the looks of it, unless the last episode is like 3 hours long, I don't know how they're supposed to wrap this up.

They could at least made it 20 episodes, 2 more additional to show Eunseom's rise, the power struggle between Tagon & Taelha, Mubaek's revelation & assistance to Tanya & Eunseom, the conflict among Eunseom, Tanya & Saya and a few more. The remaining episode isn't enough to cover all this and might bring disappointment to an ending of a really good drama.

First off all, if you're the type that pays rapt attention, you'd see that every misunderstanding is being cleared with the development of the plot. I still don't see a reason why the drama should be extended. And then again, for every extended kdrama I've seen, it always end up being flopped. So, the best the producers can do is to continue with the same energy they started with and make sure they tie all loose ends like they've been doing. On another note, this drama deserves a million awards because it wasn't adapted from a real life event but a pure fantasy which only requires imagination. I think the best we can do is to give the writer and producers some praises for using their brains. Best kdrama ever!!!

I can only wish there will be more episodes coming, like seriously, 18 episodes are not enough. This is the best of the best Tv series for 2019. This deserves a heap of recognition. The fact that Song Joongki is one my favorite actor ever since his debut years ago, he really played so well on this one too. I can't believe this has low ratings when this is a great series. This is not a typical, boring kind of love-romance stuff, this is a whole package; from action to drama to romance to comedy! A completely whole package!

At start of the drama this excites me more after watching nothing special with this. Main flaw of this drama is action scenes and no romance as well and unnecessary scenes and late introductions.

This drama is 18 episodes but the way i see it even 30 episodes may not have given a satisfactory and complete closure of the story it's like a the drama ends at it's start Only if the next 4 episode are 4 hours each can an ending without much flaws be attained if not the next 4 episode will only be rushed for the sake of conclusion. But if they is going to be a next season then it make sense if not it's just an incomplete masterpiece.

Info overload on the first 3 episodes, but got better as the story progressed. Episode 12 beautifully tied up the seemingly loose details scattered from ep 1-11. I disliked the dance rituals and spirit dance practices but later on understood it's importance in hailing Tanya as Asa Sin's direct descendant.
I find it funny to see comments saying that Eunsom's slave scenes were unnecessary fillers. Let's face it, seeking power takes time. He needs followers and supporters who will give him the power to overthrow Arthdal. Every person and every tribe that Eunsom encountered will play a part in his "character development". Hopefully final episode (18th) will be as successful as ep. 12 in answering all hanging questions. Nothing is more satisfying than realizing in the end that all the scenes made sense and were in fact part of the bigger story.

So many plot twist your heart to wrenched accepting the Wahan’s reality. I love how the show sets up future story arcs early on and leaves us feeling completely unsure as to what is to come and what will become of each character, while also giving us just enough of traditional story arcs so the viewer doesn’t lose their mind. Aug 08 2019 5:37 pm I finally sat down for two days and watched Arthdal Chronicles and loved it. I honestly liked the story and didn’t give a s&*t it appeared to be like Gane of thrones — I mean game of soft porn. The last episode where tanya dances omg that gave me chills all over my body. Song Joon Ki is doing an amazing job and also don’t give a f about personal lives. I love his characters Eunseom and Saya.I can’t wait until hotel del loony is down so I can watch the rest of Arthdal Chronicles! Song. Thank you cast I cannot boast enough about everyone’s job.

So the development of clothes, brunze and everything on it doesno't compared to the real life land, even the 'SARAM' in the drama doesn't mean human.

Thus for average 6-7% is consider high as not everyone have or buy that channel.. Sky castle is relatively one of the highest cable tv drama.. So really cant compare both..

The story is so beautiful and well done and the characters are so interesting. I love this amazing drama so, so, so much. I don't get why ppl complain about not understanding. If you don't understand Arthdal Chronicles then you have no chance for Game of thrones lol. I'm surprised this awesome drama was made in Korea. I hope they continue to surprise us with original content.
Jul 22 2019 7:45 am Referred many websites and I see people telling it's confusing! I don't understand what was so confusing about plot. On the contrary, it's crystal clear! Jus think it over and it'll seem brilliant and foolproof. I mean the plot is much sophisticated and they have brought it out in the best and simplest way possible. It's very rare that someone comes up with this kind of stories. And it surely would have taken a toll on the crew both onscreen and off to bring it into action. Such refined stories deserve more support and applauses. Hope I can jump to September somehow right away!

It is difficult to make difference between the casts because all of them seem same, so it's difficult to memorize the name. But I still keep watching. When I realize I got my emotions on this drama I love it. when I love it and keep watching more episodes, it ends on the 12th episode. I say "kkeut"(the end). Of course, I really excited to wait until September.

I really2 falling in love with the story although its was so many tribe to remember, love the sinemathography (sorry if i write wrong) but its so cool... How they picture and take the scene all was so amazing. Also i really2 love helper the horse... He was like horse in the mulan.. Love it. Cant wait to watch the rest and the last season. I watch it with nokdu too..

Arthdal Chronicles proves that your country is more than that and I can't wait to see more of you... well, i have to be patient on this one... aarrgghhh Sept is still very far...

One reason why kdramas are liked is because you don't have to wait that long to finish it. I'm sorry but whoever thought of this separating the airing of the episodes is stupid. I'm bored and tired of the usual rom com, doctor and detective drama, even the historical ones have nothing unique and are just like a bland food you eat. But this masterpiece called Arthdal Chronicles got me hooked and in love from the first episode.

The beginning is a bit weird, but you get used to it. The actors are really good and the costumes, hair make up, fighting scenes, all are really good.

It's getting more and more intense and interesting especially with the turn of events and by next episodes new characters will be introduced to make the whole plot more complicated that it already is. I just hope that with the remaining episodes they don't rush things and make the finale regrettable. Watching at the edge of my seat thinking what more plot twists are in store every scene and episode. And for the people here commenting shit about Song JoongKi and his personal life, GROW UP! Learn to separate the actor's professional and personal life, don't be stuck up immatures throwing stones at people you don't really know.

I don't like how she treats Saya. After she has learned a lot of things from Saya, she has become authoritative to him. The 10th episode shows a lot of negative aspects of Tanya. Sorry, but I don't like this character at all.

Jul 05 2019 12:12 am I must say this is one of the best mini-series I’ve seen in a while. The writing, directing, cinematography, soundtrack along with editing is all first-rate! The continuity is as evenly impressive with minimal exceptions which in my opinion was a complicated behind-the-scene endeavor for a project with so much scenery and imagery. For example, how did Eun Sum (So Joong Ki) maintain wearing a chain or pendent around his neck in the mud pit scene after he’d been beaten, dragged and confined during his entire capture?? Nonetheless, the writing along with the stellar acting of the entire cast is why this series is a must see! In my opinion, there are no supporting casts in this series! All Main!? The twist, manipulation and double crossing amongst all tribes alone makes it hard to determine who’s truly the main villain! ? A true “good versus evil, versus evil, versus more evil” flick of 2019. Great Job to all! You deserve many Awards this year!?

Right now, I'm rooting for Saya until Eunsom gets his act together. ChaeEun is the bridge for most of the important characters to reunite, hope she won't get into trouble soon.

It features a dramatic narrative elevated far above the typical sci-fi/fantasy fare in its awareness of anthropological concepts, and the performances of everyone in the cast are first-rate. The mise-en-scene is engaging and many dramatic moments quite riveting. Moreover, the violence is both on the edge of tolerable and quite necessary for an appreciation of the themes addressed. I highly recommend it.

I didn't care much for the fate of those involved in the game of thrones going on in Arthdal so I'm enjoying them slowing conspiring against each othet and killing each other off. The only characters I care about are the "sword", the "bell" and the "mirror".

And it feels really bad how tanya is using Saya knowing how good he and his intentions are towards her. I know its stupid as both twin characters are played by the same actor but i just cant help shipping tanya and Saya...i already have this feels Saya's gonna end dead sacrificing..it upsets me, is it only me ?? Idk

And talking about kim ji won aka tan ya i was thinking how is she gonna to be a politician but now i see a clear path for her. Still is tae ha really naendal really i mean really she seems saram. But cant say anything because yet her blood is not spilled.. May be she would not be real daughter of mi hol may be she woulbe naendal but she slept with naeroha how is that possible that he would not know this
Jun 24 2019 2:39 am Right now, I'm leaning more towards Saya than Eunsom. Saya is gentle and weaker in strength but he is smart and twisted in a good way. He thinks things through unlike Eunsom who is impulsive and careless. Also Saya's laugh at Taealha is surprisingly satisfying to see that in his own way he executed his revenge while acting obedient and lowkey. Eunsom acts at the spur of the moment without planning much ahead that is why he fails most of the time. I'm excited as to what twin power can do when they meet and work together. I just can't understand why Tanya hasn't mentioned about it to Saya maybe she's reserving it for the right moment.

He thinks things through before acting on it while Eunsom is careless and impulsive. Also, I agree that 18 episodes is too short, they should have made it at least 20 or more.

There is just too much info for one episode (ep1). They should have expanded the first episode into two even if they kept all of the rest the same. I think most of the fans of this drama would have liked to have more than just a few minutes screen time of Ragazeu especially, but also Choi Ro-Woon as Roddib and Kim Ye-Joon as the young Eun-Seom.
For me, the actor who really stood out more than anyone else was ONE as the young Tagon. ONE really made the character more mysterious and ethereal, whereas Jang Dong-Gun portrays the character more solidly as a human warrior, so it is much more difficult to see the non-human side of him. That is all fine, but for the viewer it would have been helpful to see a little more of ONE portraying the other side of Tagon, at least more than just a few minutes anyway. It would have made it more believable in the long run.
I know most people could hardly wait to see Song Joongi and Kim Ji Won (me included), but there was no reason they couldn't have waited until the second episode for that. I mean I was terribly frustrated in Baker King, Yoon Shi Yoon doesn't even appear until the 5th episode, but when he finally makes his appearance it is much more satisfying. So it wouldn't have hurt and definitely would have made it more enjoyable for many viewers if they had just added an extra episode and expanded the screen time for ONE as Tagon, Ragazeu, Choi Ro-Woon and Kim Ye-Joon who was great as the 10-year old Eun-Seom. We could have seen ONE handing off the baby into the care of Taealha. Maybe a hint of romance between the two. We could have also seen a little more interaction between Tagon and his father, Tagon and the warriors, etc.

Why do we have to see our differences as a crime. We are all unique and in the eyes of god we are all equal. I love the mystery and i’ve seen up to #6 and cant wait to keep watching. I recommend this drama. It will keep you on the ledge of your seat. Crazy this drama is nothing compared to Game of Thrones! It is a fresh story. This is so like GOT, not in an iron throne kind of way, but it gives story to those side characters, which in turn gives the scenes a deeper meaning. I actually approve of the leads screen time. If you’re only here because you wanted to see Song Joongki then I suggest you leave and attend his fan meeting instead. This is not the Song Joongki Show. This is Arthdal Chronicles. A story so interesting, that it needs to be told.

Jun 17 2019 12:02 am The people saying that the plot is bad or has worsened probably didn't watch Game of Thrones. Like in GOT, every character here is given time to shine and develop their arc. The pacing may not be to everyone's taste but you have to bear with it to appreciate what was going on and the culture and tradition embedded. You can't always ask for longer screentime for the leads because the supporting casts need to show their character development to. I appreciate the pacing than rushing it because it makes you understand every scene more and its importance to what will happen to the whole plot and to every character. Also, the ones saying it's barbaric, well hello what do you expect from olden times themed series? What I like most is that the flow and plot is quite unpredictable. You have the main idea of what could happen next but some plot twist and how they will execute it is exciting to anticipate. I agree that this drama deserves more recognition especially in terms of ratings.

There were two kids and two infants. So, Nichkhun can't play the character of Roddib because the latter is older than Eun-Sum... way too old for Nichkhun.

I think it is very refreshing to see actors that are just, well like everyone. I know there are main actors but all of them I still remember as if they are the main actors. From the little boy that died trying to pet the horse, crying here. To the funny chubby actor that called the other actor stupid. If I was a critic I would say that this is a great adventure into the past of belief systems that make you think about another time that might have been the way we actually lived. It is sad that the whole earth was given to everyone but we do seem to want to put up walls and borders. But this movie breaks them down by allowing us to see from another view. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to create such a nice and wonderful movie/series.

Anyway, I really love this drama, and it has a different vibe from the other k-dramas that I've watched. I hope there will be flashback scenes in the future for the young Tagon. I kept on watching his scene, where he unexpectedly saw the Igutu baby. He's so cool with handling the weapons and how he threw the sword towards the running warrior. I'm not sure if I understood the part with the snake. I think it was Aramun in disguise and merged with the baby eunsom causing his fever to be cured easily.
I'm so excited for the succeeding episodes. I wonder how the elder brother of Eunsom is and if he is a twin brother, then will he be portrayed by Song Joong Ki as well. How will the story evolve now that Moo-Baek figured out about Kanmaru and Eunsom being Aramun.
I recommend watching this show if you're into fiction/fantasy type of drama.

Jun 04 2019 3:51 pm Really good stuff. I was a bit confused with the time jumps and which baby was which but I came to the conclusion that the two babies Asa Hon and Ragaz found are the two boys that were with them later and that they had two igutu children of their own(possibly twins).
I love how they are telling the story and like the msg below I also noticed how the neanthal’s language is Hangul backwards. KJW & SJK have such great chemistry. I know I shouldn’t but I wanna ship them in real life.SHK needs to watch her man. He’s too cut :))

(well anyways, it's only the costumes that has resemblance to Game of Thrones, other than that NONE) And give more dramas to Yoo Teo / Yoo Tae Oh aka Ragaz. That guy's superb. His character portrayal is on another level and so impressed myghad!
And one more thing, it would have been the best if they retain Jaewon / One as Tagon (tho I know his face is a little too young for the character) BUT he's the best! I hate how TAGON changed from being the "BRAINS OF THE WAR" to an "Alcoholic old hag" (which I know will change in the latter part so yeah)
100% Recommended Kdrama of 2019 (for now)

If you look at the scenes closely, there is a young man with long hair who wears a mask over his mouth. He was also there when adult Tagon celebrated the end of the hunt of Neantals.

Jun 02 2019 11:55 am just finished the first two episodes, and wow i’m hooked. it’s no wonder they spent more than 40 billion won on this show. it’s directed so well, and the acting is phenomenal.
i was pleasantly surprised to see ONE as the younger version of tagon in the first episode. he really pulled of the character! there was something very eerie yet charming about his calm demeanour; he made a great villian and made me wish i could see him more. jang dong gun, song jong ki and kim ji won did well as expected. all the evil characters did a great job of making me want to jump through my screen and kill them (spoiler: when that man lit the arrow on fire and burned the hut with the little kids, i bawled my eyes out. i’ve never felt so much hatred for a character before)
the scenes really gave me goosebumps. the story itself is very unique and unlike anything i’ve ever seen before. they did a great job with the ancient historical setting. the plot is very refreshing and i’m enjoying seeing all the different theories.
i would 10/10 reccomend. the show is going to be a ride, and i cannot wait to see it all unfold!

According to the drama's website, Asa Hon and Ragazeu managed to save two Nweantal children and they survived to adulthood and then joined Yiseuroobeu.

Tagon has the eldest child and its just that joong ki is special bcoz aside from being half, he is also cursed. Asa hon did mention in the first episode that she fell in love with a neanthal, and thats ragaz. The two babies they saved at first were the children shown with asa hon during that scene where she wakes and looked for eunsom. That one child that reported to asa hon that ragaz was fighting alone with the enemies, that child that find asa hon looking up at a tree where ragaz was hung, they were the children they saved before.

The children that tagon take i think is eunsum brother bc Ragaz said that he should bring the medician for his brother, the children is Igutu, combine from Saram (asahon) and Neuantal (ragaz)
I dont think this would like Game of throne but i feel the same vibes, and i was surprised for One, jaw drop he is awesome as always.. Please looking forward to this drama everyone really mind blow really recommended.
Jun 02 2019 7:00 am OMG! Wow this drama arthdal is really good and worth watching. After waiting for 3 years we finally see our song joong ki sir on small screen. He is really a brilliant person as now I understand why he chose this show. Hey, it is really an amazing show, only one episode release and I am already become its fan. We only get a blink moment of song joong ki in 1st episode but it took my heart away. Although his look is not that charming but he is look more hot with his biceps and tanned look. Amazing.. And yes the one, that Tagon(young version), he is so amazing with his killer and suspicious smile and his looks was awesome. He is really a good actor. Waiting for next episode, can't wait. Hope this series will be a mega hit of this year like dots before. Good luck for song joong ki.

If Asa Hon and Ragazeau did have a child, then it would be like half-half right? Tagon did got a child from the forest and I think thats the child of Asa Hon. Right? So, who's child is Song Joong Ki?

Jun 02 2019 5:28 am This drama is almost 1.5hrs. But I didn't need to pause anything to rest since the story is interesting, even if I was watching at midnight. If you like story & sceneries similar to this, try watching Seirei no Moribito, also in 3 parts. They both have ancient imaginary world & weird names, political intrigue, magic, war, etc.

Jun 02 2019 2:01 am That smile I saw over and over flashed as Cha Si An in Her Private Life is unmistakable--13 mins in and One is here along with the mom from Beautiful Life that just wrapped up and soooo many more gorgeous humans all over! I am totally smitten with it all...but I still rate Tree With Deep Roots as one of my top few historical and a top 1% of dramas seen...and the direction is right there matching the prior great work in My Ahjussi, Signal and more. I don't even need Song Joint Ki to appear to feel totally full. Just so many greats. One is really becoming another "Made in tvN" star in a hurry with this/Her Private Life/Hwayugi/Room No. 9/tvN Drama stage... Just loving it so much I needed to pause and gaze at the roster before going on!

No wonder there, since this drama comes from writers who penned Tree With Deep Roots and director who gives us Signal, Misaeng, and My Mister. All are my all time favourite K-dramas! This is far from GOT, and definitely better! Raw energy abounds!

I'm really glad they made it, I was actually getting bored of most kdramas now, cute, fluffy and all cause most of them were cliche. This is definitely different and I look forward to the rest of the episodes ?

Nope Kdrama does not need Gamd of Thrones as an inspiration coz they have made so many saeguk dramas that are brilliant and amazing. Game of Thrones is incomparable as Kdramas are. I’m so glad to see Korean historical drama that has before Goguryeo/Jumong era film of B.C years. I wonder what the world looks like before Jumong haven’t born yet. This Korean drama must be similar to Jumong! I’m glad they finally made the first Gojoseon era drama of all the entire world! The Story of the First King’s Four Gods only has Baedalguk era. I bet this Korean Drama will be set in Baedalguk era and then they Tagon have found the first Gojoseon era of Asadal city. Baedalguk era means before Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty drama.

If this is about a fictional world at a fictional timeline with a bunch of savages like American TV... then I’m out.
I’d rather we explore real legends and myths in history then a make up world that has nothing do with anything.

They’re in the country where Dangun Wanggeom found the first country of Korea called Gojoseon (not to be confused with Joseon Dynasty) Dangun Wanggeom is the world first King of Korea. I think this Korean drama was set in the era of Gojoseon (Old Joseon) from more than 2,000 B.C years? Asadal city is a real life place, I read from Wikipedia.

And I'm so glad, the writters are amazing and well recognized in S.K… They wrote amazing dramas like 6 Flying Dragons, Queen Seondeok, Jewel in The Palace, etc… and Jiwon did soooo well in her last historical movie Detective K 3…(still sad that there was this ugly rapist in it……) I can't wait for it, I can trust on ger acting and the writters capabilities ??
