Auditing Classes

Auditing a course allows a student to take a class without the benefit of a grade or credit for a course. A student who audits a course does so for the purposes of self-enrichment and academic exploration. Below you can find important information Auditing Classes.

• Audits appear as an AU on transcripts and do not count toward your GPA.
• Tuition and fees will be assessed at the same rate for audited classes as those taken for credit.
• Students are not required to attend class or take exams in audited courses.
• Financial aid and veterans' benefits are not available for audited classes.
• Students may not change their registration status (from credit to audit) after the last day to withdraw. Check the Student Academic Calendar for deadlines.

How To Audit A Course?

You can request to audit your course after you have registered for it successfully. Once registered, you may submit this request by visiting your MySLCC. There, you can locate the 'Student Forms' card and click on the Audit Registration Request. The last day to request an audit is the last day to withdraw. Utah Residents (who meet all requirements for residency for tuition purposes) who have reached the age of 62 and over are able to audit regular credit classes at a reduced cost. These students do not need to submit an Audit Registration Request, as their registration will be automatically updated due to their Senior Citizen Admissions status.

Challenging Classes for Credit

Students who feel that their experience or previous knowledge would enable them to successfully challenge (test out of) a course offered at SLCC may apply to take a challenge examination at Testing Services. For more information, visit Testing Services or call 801-957-4500.
